Anyone got any good concentration tips/ideas/strategies

Concentration is a real edge in this game and I would think 90% of traders would get better results if they were able to concentrate more, even if just by an extra 10%.

So if you agree, does anyone have any good ideas/tips.tricks/strategies for either increasing our levels of concentration or being able to hold that concentration level even more?

For me personally, 2 things have helped -

1) Take off all non-trading software related things off my trading PC (and turning my non-trading PC off). So no browsers, email apps and the like.

2) I've recorded a quick sound file which says -

1. Don't think - follow price
2. CONCENTRATE
3. Stay in the NOW!

This plays ever 5 mins through my headphones. I typed the words into a text file, put them through this free software and then use this free software to auto-play the speech file every 5 mins.

However, I still find myself losing concentration so I'd be interested to know if anyone has some further ideas on the topic.

Need to have a solid exercise plan in place. I currently just cycle everyday and do weight and stretching but thinking going to some fighting training or some kind of combat training exercise program. Also do eyeball exercises!

In my opinion, you don't need to worry about concentration when your money is on the line. You are engineered to do so biologically.

However to answer your question, trade less frequent. When the market is most active (London, New York open). You don't want to be over-trading.

What exactly do you want to do? Stare at the charts with full concentration the whole day? That's really hard work.

My version goes like the following: Analyse the charts at the beginning of the day. Set alerts (these can be from indicators, trendlines, price alerts, etc. - whatever could show you that a setup might be growing).
Then do something else, read a book, play a game, clean the house or take the smartphone and go to the gym.
When you get an alert, check the chart for a few minutes (yes, with concentration) and do what is needed: enter a trade, delete the pending order, do nothing, move the stop, start the EA, or set another alert. Leave the charts alone again until you get the next alert.

You're right, staring/concentrating at the charts all day is hard, but the good money is in the 1m-5m chart. Good moves peculate in the 1m/5m every day, but they they often take time to set up and for the the market to change 'character' which is often very subtle.

Recognise the 'character change' and you've got yourself a massive edge. When I'm in full concentration mode, everything is normally pretty good. But when I lose concentration, that's when mistakes are made (usually missing the moves which gave every indication they were going to happen, from a probability point of view).
