Ahh, I did not do that magic number different for all pairs (all pair use same magic numbers)

Another thing maahome, lets say during time 2, there is one trade still profit as displayed by the screenshot (GMT+3, open 14:07 (GMT=11:07) -> this is in time 2
Then after time 2 window ends, the trade still not close : so what is the right thing to do : close it; or let it open until time 3 window

Or it happenned (not closed what time windows ends) due to magic numbers all the same

Hi All

Today I start to test demo the 1.6.1 with setting QDE (425) and QDC (425) and
For my test broker 0.01 = 0.1

Trade 1-12 = 0.1
Trade 13-21 = 0.1
Trade 22-29 = 0.2
Trade 30-36 = 0.2
Trade 37-39 = 0.3
Trade 40 & > = 0.3

Trade 24/5 = true for testing crosses : anyhow lets future decide

GBP/CAD GBP/AUD EUR/AUD
EUR/CAD AUD/CAD EUR/GBP

Cipan, have you backtested your settings? My experience is that at least 6 month of backtesting is needed to include a variety of different market conditions. IF the backtests show good results, then it is feasible to forward test.

You picked some pairs (EURCAD/EURAUD) that have a very high Average Daily range, which will be a death sentence in the long run for this strategy. Right now daily ranges are down because everyone is waiting for the FOMC/interest rate announcement next week.

At http://www.myfxbook.com/forex-market/volatility you can find the pairs with currently low volatility, just hit the word 'Daily' once (above the column) and it will sort it for you...

Not dismissing your forward tests, just trying to save you some time

Ok, here are some quick and dirty instructions:

1.
Go to Tool>History Center>Pick the pair, double click on it>select the the 1 min data>Click download
This is in order to get more history data into Mt4 to to backtests
2.
Once above is done (it may take a minute or so) open the strategy tester (View>Strategy Tester).
3.
Select the EA from the first pull down menu.
4.
Click 'Expert Properties' button and define the settings for the EA
5.
Select Period from the pull down menu 'M1'
6.
Spread, set it at 15 (points) or look at the current spread of the pair you want to test
7.
Select the Symbol you want to test.
8.
Select 'From' date and 'To' Date'
9.
Make sure 'Use date' and 'Visual Mode' is ticket.
10.
Click 'Start' button at the lower right.

Results will be in the 'Results' Tab below.

This will give you a sense if the setting you choose are worth forward testing. The quality of the tick data is bad, if you do it this way.To explain how to use 99% tick data, just look on youtube for it...

Hi Cipan,

It is very important to have different magic numbers if you have different pairs otherwise the ea will close all magics when 1 pair signals it. The way I have the EA set the trade will remain open until a reverse signal closes it. This did happen later on (your trade has probably closed by now but not with such a good profit). The time zones do not close trades the way I have them set. They only allow trades to be opened during those times. If you want to close the trades at the end of each window there is a setting in the EA for this. I personally do not use it as over time it will be less profitable I think but feel free to test it out.

There will be no new trades today because I use the No trades on Friday setting, the EA can close trades however. What is the right thing to do, that is up to you as a trader my friend. You can close any position at any time if you feel it is the correct thing to do.

MagicNumber is like an ID for an order ... so the EA can retrieve it and manage it. This is to avoid for the EA to manage orders from other charts, from other EAs or from manual trading.

Trading with a starting balance of $50,000 will also blow many pairs over the long term even when using the default lot settings (0.01, 0.02, 0.05.....0.89).

One option is to choose different trading windows for various pairs and test them.

Vary the lot size progression and make the maximum lot size = 0.1 per $10K starting balance.

Overall net return will be modest but at least the account stands a far better chance of surviving.

Many other different settings can be applied for smaller account balances so you'll just need to play with the available settings in the EA... which are quite extensive.

Good luck and enjoy the testing and hopefully you'll find a setting that works for you,

First no reason to bother with any EA if had a DD over 60% in my opinion.
I know higher risk higher reward, but I won't accept it if is greater then 35%

The next is the Balance graph.
If is like an exponential curve, then is not reliable, because you have found a set of input parameters, which has super optimized of the end of the period of testing. Example. From Jan to July did +10% and in August did + 4000%.

Same for reverse: if the chart linearly / exponentially raised from Jan to Jul and in August took the nearly 35% DD still not good.

The best it would be:
From Jan 15 start increasing with some percentage as your account, has drawn downs to time to time, 5-15%. Stops executing from Aug 10 to Sept 10 - because of the summer trade Holiday(those who are moving the market usually are on holiday).
I have the same problem for M1 strategy tester: not enough data. Need to wait at least to Nov.

As trade size:
First hardcode the trade size to your minimal, fixed trade size: 0.01. If this shows profits then has a reason too write the real money management part, because in matter of pips showing profit. If this shows loss then you can overcome with Martingale to make it profit for a short time, but on long tern doesn't work, you will end sooner of later in the maximal DD.

Try to test with different pairs, different time frame.
I wanted to make an EUR/USD, GBP/USD EA and I found a relative good GBP/NZD one:

BTW this seems to be a good indicator, except when the market is trending. Usually the EUR/USD is ranging.
Pls check the 15 min chart, 1 day period. This trending cases will blow the account if you don't use SL.

I test the last ver with my setup inside the EA GU since 1.2015 so far looking good I will update when I done it

47 trades open with 0.01 lot, it means 0.47 lot open.
For a 2000 usd account open a 0.47 lot.... well is to risky for me!
