Was reading at ebird site that this harsh winter has lead the greatest number of raptors in distress in years being taken to Raptor Trust, an agency that cares for raptors and nurses them back to health. This place borders the Swamp... Starving, etc, eating road kill soaked with salts/chemicals put down during snow storms...

That is a shame, new snow fall records all up and down the east coast.....My guess is that their sources of food are dieing also.....Really been a tough winter....

Neurological damage from eating said road kill... They are programmed to hunt and eat their prey soon after capture... but, when they are starving they will eat carrion. They don't have the digestive systems like vultures that can eat cyanide with no ill effects. Meadow voles, etc., have plenty of food beneath the snow, no need to emerge... Safe from hawk eyes.......

The only raptors we ever see down here are Red Tailed Hawks......They seem to be doing pretty well, but we don't have the winters you do either.........

40 yrs ago road into Raptor Trust, rustic, wood, and chicken wire coops... Hopped off of my motorcycle and was promptly bitten on the calf by manager's dog!! Lived to tell.....

Morning Pippo,
Will be another great day here today.....Temp 55 and clear and should go up into the high 70's....EA hit the SL somewhere along the line yesterday.....GJ and the Cable starting to move....
