My G/U gridlock has closed out some of the orders on margin. I'm at the tipping point. If NFP comes out pro-USD, I'm sunk.

The problem for me with the $5,000 vs. the cent account etc. is that I don't think I'd ever have the gumption to plop down 5K of real money on this. Now if I could build that up from a lower amount, so be it...

I had doubled a small $300 account (which is now in limbo) until I ran into this G/U grid. I've learned and changed a lot since then, but not sure where to go from here...more testing no doubt.

You can automate that part.

Exactly my thoughts. I will be looking to automate the max dd percentage. I would also need it to readjust lot size after DD. So if anything is already out there that does this it would make this testing so much easier...

Then we can take it down to lower amounts and tweak the max DD

Steve Hopwood's MPTM (Multi Purpose Trade Manager) I believe has a "close all orders at DD" option...or something to that effect. Let me take a look.

Toward's the bottom of the inputs (and there's a lot of them) there's several Basket closure features. I've never used them, but his EA's have always been stellar.

I came to the same conclusion.

Depends on the lot size, setting and management. I'd have a 50% max risk on small accounts before closing all and continuing.

Double Hedge strategy complete for 1 week of testing. Here are the results:




Closed all trades with a profit of 3.9%. If I didnt include the last losing trade, then it would have been about 14%. This strategy has potential, but here are problems I've faced:

- When a major trend happens, at least one trade will be stuck with high DD. We could wait for recovery, but then we are only "hoping". At the same time, the pair generated lots of profit today, but the hedge was more heavy on the compounding opened trades, so it's not quite break even.
- Sometimes, the trades are made at very expensive prices near the end of a trade (near S/R levels) that I would never have made (buy into resistance or sell into support).
- Direction is not important, but better to have the hedge in the direction of the cross trend, which will ultimately reverse, in which case you would manually flip all trades. However, this happens often, but you gotta watch out for the cross tears of correlation not in your favor.
- Big impact news should be avoided. I would have made about 5-6% if I didn't trade today.

Here's what I did to keep it alive (did so sparringly, except for the last trade ^.^)
- Manually close trades that were over 7 trade levels (I had a double martingale lot and spacing factor strategy of 1.1 and 1.7, 0.01 lot for every 2k account size).
- Frequently monitor for runaway trades
- Used price action and S/R to make decisions

Here's what I should have done and missed:
- NU was coming into a major daily resistance level that I totally missed. Combined with NFP and you are asking for trouble to buy into resistance.

Anyways, hope this helps shed some light into this strategy. It may only be a week, but I was definitely not going to ride NU into recovery. As I've explained many times earlier, EU and GU are the worse pairs to trade this strategy. And now NU have been affected also. Conclusion, this strategy is best for ranging markets. When it trends sharply, you get stuck, and you may never get back, unless you have a very big account and patient enough to ride it out for weeks or even months. In the meantime, you could have better used your money to profit from other trades.

So I will revise my strategy to trade 1 or two pairs in the direction of the trend that has a notable channel. When channel is broken, close and find another pair. Many thanks to GT and other providers here. I've learned a lot about this strategy. This will be my last post here. My personal recommendation for others trading small accounts (10k and below): Any level of martingale is too risky, end of story, period. With manual intervention, martingale of 1.1 is manageable in addition to spacing martingale. It let's you easily assess how bad a trade you are currently in and close close it with a manageable loss that doesn't hurt much. Trade small often or large infrequent and do not risk much. Even GT's conservative strategy is stuck in a striking far away TP. Arbinka's conservative account blew due to full auto. I've only experienced this ONCE and that was due to today's NFP. We must learn from these valuable test results and not repeat. And last, best luck to everyone here in their journey. :-) Peace out folks.
