I've been following along from the start. I'm a big fan of ST's. I wondered how long it would be before someone did a back test on the rules as stated( albeit, not all of them). It would be pretty easy to someone with a bit of IT knowledge). As I understand it they are 100 pip stop or a smaller fractal or DBLHC/DBHLC with a 2 pip buffer, and the 7 bar fractal. BUT, ST has said make it your own. i.e use discretion as he has shown in his exits. Green pips.
Like I said, discretion could be the key. Then again, with discretionary trading there's no point of backtesting. Maybe with a replay-kind of software like Forex Tester or something similar. Anyway, I was interested to find out whether the system can be traded mechanically.

That alone makes the backtest completely void, the Ea you wrote does not trade the system anything like the way it is presented.

An Anology if you like... " It took me took me 5 days too complete a marathon...... That proves i can never run one sub 4 hours........ But then again i forgot to mention i spent a total of 4 days and 19 hours getting chomped off by local hookers...

By all means back test an Ea, but it has to have all factors the same to provide anything like reliable results.

Thanks for your comments. I will not spend the time to go into individual elements of your post due to the fact that you stated most of them in your own post and the other points have been clearly articulated.
If you have read through the thread, then you should be pretty familiar with the fact that I constantly talk about making this your own method. This is the end game, not to blindly follow the leader. I presented this as a "this is how I trade this method type thread" in the hopes it could help some people on their way.

If you want to pursue an entirely mechanical system based on this method...by all means go for it. If you want to pursue the route of proving that it will not work in a mechanical fashion...by all means go for it.

I guess to sum it up, I am not bothered in the least by your pursuits and will offer help if needed....but let's just make sure that we have a common goal in mind here...and that is to put money in the bank via green pips....anything else and I will not bother to respond.

That's fine mate, all it was is a preliminary test. I do plan to extend the algo to cover all the aspects of the original method, I just have limited time for this stuff, and decided to post my initial findings anyway.

Sure thing. I do hope you understand that it was not my intention to bash or discredit this system in any way. I am fascinated by it and interested in it, otherwise I wouldn't even have bothered spending any time on it

My sole goal was to determine whether it can be traded mechanically, without any discretion on the trader's side. If it can't, that just means that. Nothing wrong with a discretionary system (I trade one myself), but it's good to know whether a particular method is discretionary, or not.

Anyway, I'll try to get to round 2 of my testing by filling in the missing points in the algo and also testing on longer time periods with proper tick data. Probably won't have time to do that before the weekend, but I'll get back to you if there's anything worth adding to my first post.

Swing -I notice that James16, in his first 80 or 90 pages or so, shows trades utilising the DBHLC etc to good effect but these simple approaches have become buries in what has become a bloated thread. For the patient reader one can see useful connections between the simpler TA in that thread and the common sense, no nonsense approach of Swings method.

Back testing ?
​You cannot replicate human behavior. Some trades will be missed due to sleep, time zone variations and more. Manual trading involves human decision trading, deciding to take a trade or ignore due to factors such as nearby pivot or support/resistance zones, news, black swans. If mechanical trading was so good then wouldn't the market be brought to its' knees by such powerful programmes?
What's between your ears determines your success and fear plus greed. Therefore you cannot delegate "you" to a programme.

You do realize that the market is ruled by algorhythmic trading these days, don't you? What you and the rest of the ppl here in the thread do, what I myself otherwise do - discretionary manual trading - is a tiny little fish in the pond. That doesn't make it either good, or bad, that's just how it is.

Turnip....I have faith in...Myself I completely understand the intentions of IKK....however a lot of times it is simply the will to win that produces the green pips....weeks like this one so far will test the human patience and will....I am having an ugly week so far, however, it is Wed and there is a long way to go to the finish line on Fri and I will figure out how to get my 200 pip target
