what is the best "solution" for us traders, which broker do you think will be best for us ?
Ignored
there is not one best broker. Every trader is different and has different goals and strategies. Many traders will now switch to a market maker, I guess. Because market makers can garantieremn the Stop Loss. Personally, I have now found a half dozen brokers for me personally. All with leverage 400 or 500. All regulated. Three with ECN, three with STP. Market Maker I have some tested. The market maker I find boring. I notice that the prices are not market prices. In some cases there are more than 10 pips difference between ECN and market makers. In addition, the execution of the orders is often not possible or seriously delayed. So I will continue to act with ECN. The risk I know and I never trade money as a percentage of my capital with more.

{quote} I don't understand why people get worked up over the leverages. Honestly, if you have been using Alpari's full margin, that's seriously playing with fire. Nobody should ever be allowed to work with more than 1:50. JMHO

Leverage is key to higher profit returns, learners having access to high ratio's is good... you only learn from your mistakes.
High risk warnings are all over brokers sites!
because that is what forex trading is.
if people choose to use such high leverage with no experience, then they are not trading, They are gambling.

looks like the journalists are pulling these articles out of their @$$es. Seriously, do you really think that there is 50 interested parties?
If there were more than 2-3 seriously interested parties who are not just looking for free PR, I would be more than surprised. What better PR than telling your clients, "look, we got through the CHF/EUR debacle and still have enough cash and are now even considering buying another broker, rest assured, your money is safe with us".

In reality, what besides the client roster, does Alpari have going for it now? Brand value is damaged to the highest extent, customers will be bailing out of Alpari and possibly out of Forex overall, and technology is worthless.

I would personally consider staying, if they get bought out and if I actually get my funds back. I will be reducing my account size though, since having more than 50K in the account now seems a bit too dangerous to me

Hey Leo

Do you mind sharing your research result between different brokers? Which ones do you find best suitable?

I sent an email last week to someone who is to sort of manager or so, asking when I will get my money back. This is what the guy responded:
"
Dear ........
Alpari (UK) Limited (in special administration) (the "Company")
I refer to your email below and our previous response at 11:01 am today.

The Administrators are legally required to complete a formal process of agreeing client claims before any funds can start to be returned. As previously advised, the Administrators continue to work with the staff of the Company to confirm the value of client claims and to establish an efficient and timely process for claim values to be agreed in line with the legal requirements.

The Administrators intend to provide an update on their website shortly which covers the queries that you raise – please monitor the website at www.kpmg.com/uk/alpari.

Yours faithfully
for Alpari (UK) Limited

Rob Spence "

I guess it makes sense.

So, basically there are two parallel threads of events (?):
1. KPMG took over and is preparing liquidation of the company as per the law.
2. But they're also giving a chance to sell the company to someone who will take back the control, do something with the debt and resume trading service and/or pay out clients ASAP.

I guess option #1 would take more time before anybody could see a penny (or the debt collector).
In case 2. there might be a chance to get us to our money faster, since the buyer is purchasing a hive with 100k of impatient bees. And as time is passing the bees becoming more and more angry, the risk/rate of migration gets higher and higher, the hive is worth less and less...

I hope option 2 going to be the reality. (KPMG won't tease us with bonuses if we stay. )

And why should I eat my hat? I STILL haven't been proven wrong. Go back and re-read what I wrote. I said you won't see Alpari/KPMG paying out anything to the winners. A new buyer, well anything can happen that's upto the buyer. I am still not wrong. Nice try though.

I explained it before, anyway: pro-rata means pro-rata of the pool, so you'll get your money back. Lets say the pool is 1000 USD and you had 500 in it, that means your pro-rata base is 50% because you own 50% of the pool. 50% of 1000 are 500 according to Adam Ries (and Eva Zwerg ;-) ).

Having said this, I have no idea if there are any handling fees involved in returning the funds back.

Anyway, the last thing I'm going to add to this thread: don't worry. Insolvency is not a thing of robbery, at least not in the UK. They have to follow rules, most doom and gloom I read here is because of a clear lack of understanding how things work, funnily enough some people choose a broker because of segregated funds without even understanding what that means.

BTW guys: KPMG is quite international, if you have problems understanding their information in english, just call them in your home country, maybe they can help you out.

hey, if it is as you say, then why did you put your money on this broker? How stupid is that? If you do not have a hat, I can give you my hat, let it taste you!
