I have been broker shopping since yesterday.. and so far none of the ones that i have talk to seem to be interested or willing to purchase alpari. What do you guys think about Market makers. I like alpari because it was ECN and i have been contacting ECN brokers. Any comments on MM. ??

ICMarkets is getting precautions on ECB

Dear Trader,

This is to inform you about the key ECB announcements expected tomorrow(Thursday, 22nd January, 2015)

All eyes will be on the ECB and Draghi for tomorrow’s press conference( 1:30 PM GMT) With the ECB's interest rate decision also being held tomorrow( 12:45 PM GMT) and a strong belief held that the ECB will use this meeting to announce details regarding their quantitative easing program. Markets and spreads are likely to be extremely volatile and will widen during this period.

In preparation for ECB's QE/Rate announcement please ensure your account’s exposure is kept to a minimum & is well capitalized to avoid liquidation. IC Markets will be changing the leverage across all pairs to 100:1 during the Asian session tomorrow. Any account with an exposure of greater than 50 times its value will be assessed for liquidation/position reduction prior to the announcement.

The reduced leverage will be effective until 26th of January 2015, post which normal leverage will be assessed on pairs.
Be careful guys out there.

does anyone have the exact time when AlpariUK closed all trades and shut down the platforms?
i need to know the date and time plz.

Well, I think you were talking with Employees in brokers, I'd confirm, we do have more information more than them..

when you look at your previous statement, you will see when Alpari has closed your open positions. Each trade is recorded in detail. I think all open trades were at the same time closed.

My trades at AlpariUK_Spreadbetting have been closed 16.01.2015 between 10.21 and 10.27am UK time

my last trade I have self completed. 12:18 UK time. So Alpari could not finish all trades at the same time.

I'm currently in the process of opening a new account with Active Trades and I was pleased to read this announcement on their web site...

On January 15th 2015, the Swiss National Bank announced the removal of the minimum level between EUR and CHF at 1.20 (“the floor”) after more than 3 years. This caused the EURCHF to fall more than 20% within minutes.

Even when I was a noob starting out trading there was one thing that was clear in my head from the get go; never trust brokers. Never keep a large sum in your brokerage account. Just enough to trade. A broker is a tool to make money NOT a bank! I can't believe people here kept most if not all their capital in a broker account. That really shocked me.

Luckily I only had a small portion of my entire capital with Alpari UK, the rest is safe in a bank.

I know this advice does not help anyone now but for the future please be more careful. Brokers are crafty, go bust all the time and manipulate prices and trading.

maybe. Every trader has different targets, I think. I share my risks now. I have opened accounts with five brokers. Does this happen again, that a broker becomes insolvent, I can continue to trade with the other accounts.

On friday ..the exact time is not known but it was b4 10.am..i know this because i was in a surgery trying to login to alpari

it is foolish to risk all his money. I trade with 10% of my money. More Never. And it's money, which I could do without at a total loss. I never put more than 2% of the money from the trading account to trade. A higher amount would Kamikaze.

Btw guys, I just don't get it how anyone could even trade the franc... It was so clear that the pegging creates an artificial price and puts too much power in the hands of SNB. This scenario is the opposite of free market. They HAD the power to throw this bomb and of course that it did happen eventually.

and i had the power to sell the swissy with only 0.6 lot and win 10000$ that is still stuck in AlpariUK
