Not at all Stew.I just trade professionally from home.
I have some friends who work for banks, but not myself.

Most of the time i cover intraday but sometimes i'll have to roll them for longer to achieve goal(not my financial goal lol, but in terms of price).
If i'm running macro on something, i'll try and net that side, while also taking some intraday. The intraday stuff could run from 1 hour or so right up to whole sessions.
To put an average hold figure is tough. I don't track it that way actually.

If we have a strong USD bid for instance and i'm selling EUR or AUD. Then i'll be trying to clear something price wise. The time it takes is mostly irrelevant.
There could be a barrier in play and on London open you feel the pressure in prices wanting to try to gun it with macro. I'll position myself a little and look to press as OF and structure confirm its likely on. I cannot control the hunt in this instance but by experience there is a high likelihood they'll get it done at some stage. The time component i'd like to control, but it's out of my hands.

It's not so much how long, but more a matter of when. I would rather it do it quickly if you catch my drift. Sometimes it takes its time lol

The london option here is particularly interesting because it is really weighing on the trading decisions I make. Is it possible to do good while trading only half the session?

Profuse apologies for my conceit, but I can’t resist a quick boast on the very rare occasions when one of my forecasts actually works out. LOL

Referring back to post #162, price did indeed retrace back beyond the green line, and bounce from the supply zone ‘A’ down to the demand zone ‘B’ (see screenshot).

Let’s hope that the OP also caught many of those 100-odd pips.

I see that Jarratt remains fundamentally bearish on EU, especially if the ECB institutes QE.

So a chart is history, it is what HAS happened.
They are useful to a trader but one shouldn't be trying to get an edge purely from a chart. If you think of the amount of retail traders that fail, what do they all seem to do that is in common?
You must work first away from the chart and then use the chart only for risk.

If you aren't looking at the price drivers, then you are trading blind and on hope. Hope of continuation.
The only way you'll know whether it will continue or not is to track the price driver and not the chart. If the price driver remains, then the movement in price continues in that set direction.

If young Bender applied the principle, then this thread wouldn't be in existence and he wouldn't be in this predicament.
He was obviously trading almost purely from a chart and was ignorant/oblivious to the fact that the Eurozone and ECB were starting to run against him.
Now he is caught in a full blown, as bad as it gets, one way macro trade. And when it does this and you're on the wrong side then it's going to get messy.
If you can track the fundamentals well, then you can be on the other side shorting this and make a killing.

I'm almost certain there are some millionaires being made on these current macro flows in EUR, JPY and USD. But those guys making it aren't just chart trading. They are doing some work.

Ha, if trading from a chart was all it was about, then my next door neighbour would be rich, in fact everybody would be doing it. You see, everybody is doing it and most are losing. Red flag?
The chart is basically the last 5% of the trade.

Regarding my other thread. I was alluding to how dealers and larger participants pick off the other side.

You can trade half sessions, in fact you can trade for as long or as short as you want.
I feel though tracking sentiment over sessions is the best way to go about it for a professional trader.
If you can only sit and trade for small amounts of time then i suggest tracking fundamentals and riding macro flows, but giving yourself some room with your positions.
If you stand too close with your 'outs', then they'll take you out on a temporary shift in sentiment intraday and you'll never be able to realise profits on macro.

Position sizing is key and being fluid and flexible. Don't stand too close. You can then use various risk events to pick up discount with macro.
Keep your eye on flows and developments that may affect the fundamental picture and your position. Manage your exposure accordingly.

Hi there BT - I feel for you. But to tell you the truth - lets think that if ur thinking of this as a passive income - IT IS POSSIBLE. I myself am in a situation where I lost 1/3rd of my account overnight and I realised the mistakes I had made. My 2 cents which can help you:

1. Pls dnt buy maximum number of units available for a single trade. Distribute your trades.
2. use lot system to buy. E.g. U sold USD/JPY at 106 and now see the price has gone up to 118. The best thing to do is watch for the pair to get stable and try shorting again at a higher region to sort of average out.
3. Analyse - Some of the guys out here are really good. They give good tips and advice. Follow them. I have been doing the same. Got a few indicators on the metatrader 4 through discussions here. They seemed to work well.
4. Look at most common pairs and only play in those. For example choose 4 pairs and only focus on them.
5. And most important - dnt panic when you see the trade going against you. Keep calm and just average it out.
6. Train your mind. Aim for 20-40 pips only per trade. And mentally stand by your virtue. Remember to put bids and dnt be greedy if you got it! Your trade is successful and you have won the game.

I hope that helps. I really sincerely wish to see nobody loses money here. Take this up as a challenge and win it. Play it like you play playstation.

No doubt a reaction to the (scheduled) ECB Press Conference, and following the unchanged EUR bid rate. Did you hear what was announced?

Nonetheless, IMHO events like this expose the limitations of TA, and highlight the need for both news awareness and risk management. Trading is, at best, about probabilities, not certainties — at least that's what the Market Wizards books tell us. Along with some sage advice (as always) from skfx:
