Hi A

Thanks for your post. The lower wicks are indicative of 2 things. First it is the sign that the powers that be are supporting price and are not letting it fall the way it really wants to go so a struggle is going on. Secondly those price action candles show a non determined (motive) move which is a retacement. Retracement will ultimately lose momentum and die and the real move will continue. As per 1250 it is just a typical target. If the downtrend is strong it would not get there. If the $ strengthens right out of the gate and the stock market rallies then gold will go down as we expect.

Gold:

Might look to do a calendar spread on GLD (gold ETF) at zero cost. Bullish trade but no risk if price falls from here.
If price would struggle @ 120 area long enough for Dec. 120 Call to expire worthless the Jan. 123 could become a free trade or sold for a profit since the trade was done @ no cost.

***Monthly ranges lately have been about $5-$6 so would put price near 120 @ Dec. expiration if up-trend continues.

Trade:
Sell Dec. 120C = $.83
Buy Jan. 123C = $.83
Total Cost = $0.00

I like the idea of free trades. In this case what happens if gold goes down before the Dec expiry?

As long as price is below 120 @ Dec. expiration, the Dec. Call will expire worthless then there should be some value left in the Jan. call which could be sold or held onto for the free trade. So price collapsing is of no concern at all. Just a zero cost trade that didn't provide any profits.

The ideal thing to happen would be price creeps higher & closes near 120 @ Dec. expiration then there should be about $1.20 value in the Jan. 123 call. Sell it for profit or hold for a free trade.

Similar to gold, I'll look to do a calendar spread in SLV (silver ETF).

***This one carries a bit more risk so might wait & watch this one for a bit. Silver can get a little crazy :-)
