hey pt.... ...... quad racks are nice..... it took me several days , if not a week, to get everything adjusted to the proper height, angle and tilt.... you'll quickly find out, the phrase 'pain in the neck' was surely first muttered by someone with 8 monitors.....

Yup, ergonomics are definitely important. I'm surprised that the OP is dropping $13K on a CPU without investing in the work surfaces (no offense but that desk does NOT befit the hardware it's supporting!). I mean, if I were spending his money , I'm definitely budgeting for THIS:

hey joel.... ya know, forgot about that..... yes, i have to actually use 2 desks..... the quad monitors in my profiles picture is attached to a second antique solid oak desk.... the torque on the attachment was too much for my sit-at-desk to handle.... the other quad is mounted to the wall beside me, again due to sit-at-desk not being able to stand the force of the attachment.....

there is an infinite number of ways to set them up.... for 2 years now i have been suppose to get better desk, just dread having to realign everything...... it will have to be solid wood, oak or cheery....... similar to below.....h

Ok, so I took a look at the components and there are quite a few bizarre choices. I picked everything listed in the specs (I had to guess at specifics but went high end for the most part), and built a cart in Newegg:

Xeon E5-2687W x2: $4299
Z9PE-D16/2L: $374
RAM: Crucial 16GB ECC Ram (x4) $719
SSD: Samsung 850 Pro 1TB (x2): $1319
Spinning Rust: Western Digital RE 2TB (x2): $319
Video: GTX 770 (4gb): $319
Blu-Ray: Pioneer 16x: $65
PSU: Corsair 1000w: $229
OS: Win 7 Pro OEM: $139
Case: HAF X: $165 ($20 MIR I won't even worry about)

Total of the cart came to $7954. Even adding $500 for odds and ends (ooh, and the 5 year warranty), that still leaves a ****$4500 MARKUP****!

I understand about the convenience of having someone else build, test, etc. there's quite a lot of vendors who could build a very similar PC for a lot less.

Other thoughts: I'd probably also want to get redundant internet pipes with failover capability, etc.
I understand if you don't want to assemble everything yourself, but you could look at what are called "Workstations" from the big companies. Dell Precision 7910, or maybe a decked out Mac Pro... Hell, I'll put together the exact same system for you MYSELF for $10K + tax (I've been building my own since I was 13 or so)!

Change in my pricing numbers, because I didn't previously realize that the system in question requires **BLEEDING** edge DDR4 ram. $300 per 16gb of registered ECC ram x 4 sets = $1200 for memory alone, bringing the system cost to $8500.

lol, i have a store brought hp with 16 gig memory it does good for trading , but i need a system to hook up 8 monitors and i need the speed

no im a dummy and didnt' know the monitors was included , but i do see your point about the other stuff

What do you need that for? 6 terabyte of disk space? For what? Taking a screenshot of every chart every second? Or even record videos of it? Man, you really can sell anything to traders.

Are you using lots of indicators? Cause I'm sure that every up to date computer would be able to run 28 charts with some MAs on it at the same time without much trouble. Now if you wanted to play the newest games on it at highest settings while trading it would make sense but even then it would be way overpriced.

I receive 60 GB of level 2 FIX messages from FXCM daily, 20 GB from FXOpen, 2 GB from LMAX, 1 GB from Dukascopy, 1 GB from MB Trading, 1 GB from OANDA.

In total I get around 85 GB of new level 1 or level 2 tick data PER DAY. I would consume those 6 TB in around 3 months Of course, to avoid that, I highly compress the data, so I only really need around 5 GB per day, which would make those 6 TB last for around 4 years.

I already have 1 TB of highly compressed financial data, not only ticks, but also news articles or stuff downloaded by my web-crawlers (including this forum ).

You must be one helluva trader - I don't think any bank/hedge fund trader has as much data at their disposal.

It will be very nice to have such an amazing workstation just like a Ferrari or Lambo would be, but I am sure a good trader will do just as well on a good laptop, especially young traders with good eyesight.
When all conditions are met - Enter trade - sit back and FRET !!!

I'm sure you're just making fun, but I'm small potatoes. The US stock market produces 1 TB of data PER DAY. Hedge funds have much more that than me at their disposal
