Sym Hi, If I understand correctly, you will provide the "COT_report" every week. How do you get the file and where? Because everything depends on this file, or you compile it made of? Hugs!

For those new to COT's or just don't know, The COT's report is released 'Freely' every week on Friday. Although the data is free I'm sure it takes time for Sym to do his inputting of data.

'counting pips' website is a good place to do some research.

Sym you may like this too so here's this weeks:

Hi Sym You mentioned that the indicator will work on 3 indicies - can you let us know which ones they are please. I know you don't want day traders etc but I took a short on eurusd after looking at the data and fully expected to be in the trade for a while as I set a tp of 96 pips - was pleasantly surprised to see that tp hit when I woke up this morning Aussie time. Obviously need to do some more testing as to how to best use this info but very interesting.

Hi silversurfer
2 out the 3 indexes are going to be replaced by GOLD and SILVER, so stay tuned for a new release.
You are wrong...
I love daytrading and scalping... so every trader is welcome here... I don't see (now) how COT report can help a scalper, perhaps it can help a day trader but we need to find a way because COT report is alway late compared to the SPOT FOREX market.
I'm very happy to hear your trade went well... but it could have been been only lucky. If you find some ideas about COT trading... please let us know.

P.S. I have been to Australia and I think you are pretty lucky to live there... I love your country and others as well

Hi lecoon 2003

if I may suggest you some things (not teach) here some advices:
- try to find everything useful on the web, tools and infos (kraven provided a good link)
- be aware that large speculators do this for a living and they can move markets at wish. They'll do everything they can in order to NOT let us understand what they are doing and when they'll do it. They are smart people, they have resources (human, technological and first hand news), experience and plenty of money. Their first task is to "cheat and fool" other traders (in order to gain). The only way to win this battle is try to do what they do (and it's not easy). Please forgive me for these banalities but sometimes is useful also for me to remember who my opponents are.
- when you are aware of this, open the indi, input SHOWDATA=7 and watch the red line (large speculators) and black line (market price). Watch when and where they bought or sold (I mean levels of price) and how long they held positions and what was their target in pips. Large speculators usually don't buy this week and sell the next.

So our task here is to share ideas about trying to make some money and not be fooled by this people. Can we?

Yes you have understood well, I'll provide the weekly COT data.
The report is available here: http://www.cftc.gov/MARKETREPORTS/CO...DERS/INDEX.HTM

but the process to get and assemble the data is time consuming and not easy (not too complicated to be honest).
I should write a manual step by step and I don't have time to do this now.

Have a nice day

First thing: your window should be like the one below (everything readable).
If not, do this:

CTR+I
click on indicator's name
click on edit
clicK OK
click close
Your window should be now ok.

Now, what are you lookig at?
You are looking at what LEVERAGED FUNDS (only a part of large speculators) have done in the past.

The last we know about them is that they bought and are helding:
176761 SHORT FUTURES CONTRACTS (red line)
56164 LONG FUTURES CONTRACTS (green line)
and the difference between the two total positions is -120597 (rappresented by the gray line). The gray line could be the sentiment of the market and if it reaches a bottom point, could be that the sentiment (market) is going to change direction.

Hope to have been clear.

Hi wael0102003

if your is a question, I don't know what to answer.
What I can see is that large speculators started to buy GBPUSD FUTURES the 1st of April 2013 (April fool's day?) and continued to buy till June 2014 (15 months). The travel was from 1.5036 to 1.7155 (more or less). What are they doing now? I wish I could know... I'd be rich.

What I could have done for sure (if I had had the indi) was to start selling (very small lots) in July-August 2014 because red line was at a good level (looking back to the past).

Any other suggestion?

How about data from here? https://www.quandl.com/
They do have COT data in downloadable CSV format that is pretty nicely assembled. I've used some of the data here before.

Hello sym,

Something wrong with your template on my platform I couldn't work out, a tiny error is that the Gold symbol in the indicator's setting was put in wrong place with Silver and I changed it back already. But as in my picture, green & red line & grey line, they are compressed at the bottom of the screen. When you are available, please help take a look and help correct the issue.

Thank sym.

Regards,
Exciter135.
