Well said Don, I guess the proof of the pudding will be when everyone fires up their platforms tomorrow morning to test the strat, it will show it's true colours with regards to being a great find or not due to the clear entries, I guess we have no reason to doubt Commox until proven otherwise. It's just when to pull the plug on a bad trade that may catch many out as the exit strategy is not defined.

I have been back testing it this morning and found that it works.
I've been trying to trade forex for 3 years now and have spent a lot of money on trading methods, I've learned a lot about indicators but I haven't made
a hole lot of money.
Something I've learned for me is not to be greedy when I do the big dogs but me back on the porch.
I'm going to give your method a go this week and I will let you know how I do.

This is another myth that costs traders hundreds of hours.
A forward test is a backtest. If today you made a backtest of 100 days, it would be the same results as if you had started a foreward test 100 days ago.
At the end of the foreward test day, when you log your results, it is already past history. It is a backtest of that particular day.

I think that this system cannot be backtested unless using a trade simulator. Because the entry is upon a NonlagMA bar that is just opening. At hindsight we do not know what color it was at the open, we only see what color it was at the close.
So, let us see what forward test will show.

I wrote a crude EA to attempt to backtest and the nolag bar repaints as the current price goes up and down.

That is only true if the system uses repainting indicators (including MTF indicators).
If it does, you shouldn't be looking at it anyway. Forget it and look for another method.

You have completely missed the point.....you trade in the direction indicated by the last bar painted.
So make sure it's an exciting one, 'cos it's the only one you get!

Everyone understands how to open a trade with this system, the problem is how and when to get out of a loosing one.
Despite the explanation given by comoxBluejay , no one really figured it out: when and if he will be interested to share more details , then this will become very interesting. let's hope!

No, I have not. If the indicator has the setting of "displace -1" then the last painted bar is, in fact, current bar that has just opened. By this setting you have moved all the bars forward by one step. When displace is set to 0 then current NonlagMA bar is under current candle.
From the point of view of visual backtest, displace -1 is same as repainting. You never know at hindsight what the color was at the time.

You have moved the bars back by one step. The last Nonlag bar will be two bars back. It will represent the last completed price candle.
It doesn't matter except in backtest. You have to be aware of the Nonlag you should be looking at.

Yes, moved back or forward, it depends on how to read it
But I understood that we have to trade the very last painted bar, not the very last completed bar. And if it is so then we take the trade based on with what color the bar opens. And the color may very well change later, so in backtest we do not know what it originally was.

Seeing the way this thread was going, this post actually took longer to appear than I thought it would. Can't wait for market open to give your method a whirl.
