Please explain how i just had 10 pip slippage for the latest GBP services release?
Ignored
Slippage is very common with almost all ECN brokers during medium/high impact news releases. Sometimes you also get positive slippage too.
Layzers is right about high probability news, Liquidity Providers don't want retail traders to pick an easy move in a very short period of time.

Can I lose more money than I put into my account?

No, IC Markets allow flexible leverage from 1:1 to 500:1 so you can change leverage anytime you need to adjust risk. You can also create multiple accounts and divide your capital for different strategies.

I think that's not quiete right, with a margin call combined with slippage you can lose more money than you put in your account. A scenario would be a couple of open positions combined with scalping with small stop loss (and thus with higher lot sizes). During unfavorable NFP news etc. / slippage you migth even pierce through your deposit. In most cases this problem would occur due to bad management, but yes it is possible to go into the red.

Why the insistence on trading NFP releases? Gotta stop stop trading these volatile news releases because slippage is unavoidable.

I agree. Why not wait for 15mins to 1Hr after NFP release. If there is a strong trend, wait for the pull back to enter in the direction of the trend. The trend momentum direction can be defined as the side that has bars that close their their highs or lows.

Almost all brokers I know and tried before will slip you massively on NFP releases. They aren't playing tricks on you, but simply there isn't enough liquidity to fill your order at the time of the news releases.

Placing a pending buy or sell stop order just before NFP release is similar to standing infront of a TGV train and hoping you will be able to stop it. The fact is, you will dragged very far ahead with the train, before the train comes to a stop because the driver realises that he has hit someone. In forex, you will be 'dragged' very far from your requested price and you will be filled at a much worse price - slippage.

During NFP when your order does not find and counter party then your order execute with slippage. The whole things happen extremely fast and sometimes you get positive slippage by luck.

I have to admit I'm a little confused at this; after all that negative balance is essentially money IC Markets is out because your positions collapsed faster than their margin call safety mechanisms could unwind them; is it not reasonable that they ask you to settle these debts before they permit you to open any new positions?

@ Kunz: Just want to confirm, your 30 minute XAUUSD is having issues with gaps correct? If so I haven't personally haven't encountered similar problems, at least not on Live2. Is anyone else on Live3 having similar issues (if this is indeed the problem)?

Why on the earth your account goes negative ? Btw, Margin Trading is not suitable for everyone if you don't understand the risk involved in forex trading then this game is not suitable for you. The same rule apply with almost every broker.

MT4 Platform is working flawless. Make sure you are not using low quality plugins, indicators, EAs which are not compatible with recent built of MT4.

Always upgrade only one or two terminals until you are confident that the terminal will suit your needs. Then upgrade the rest of the terminals. You have to block WebInstall folder (both ProgramData/MetaQuotes/WebInstall and [windows user]/AppData/Roaming/MetaQuotes/WebInstall). because metaquotes does not allow the user to choose when to apply updates (stupid imo, especially for live account traders).

So make sure you want the update.

Backup terminal.exe, metaeditor.exe and there are 2 other files that should be backed up dealing with the metaviewer.

As an addendum to our last reply, we saw that when we upgraded terminals with the auto-update with a server reboot, some of the terminals did not upgrade "fully" and a couple of the terminals were showing massive CPU usage (same indicators), and other terminals with 2x-6x times the charts were not showing any problems.

We solved it by shutting down the terminals in question and running the individual mt4 installer for that broker in that terminal's install folder. On terminal restart, CPU usage problems disappeared. It seems like if you try to update too many terminals at once (like on a reboot), not all the terminals may get the needed files copied.

Since you have to restart the terminal anyway in order to update, you might as well restart the computer also if needed (apply any Windows updates needed).

Thank you ybfjax ... due to the latest update, there was an issue with couple of custom indicators, which I've fixed now and MT4 platform runs as it used to.
So, problem is solved ... at least until some next changes in MQL again in a future ... it's bloody annoying and frustrating of course, but that's traders' reality.
