Evening Pippo,
Formatted the hard drive on the trading machine and ran the disk checker on it and I believe it will live.....So now we start to rebuild everything.....I just purchased Win 8.0 and will load it up this weekend.......if it works, I will download the free upgrade Win 8.1 and install it........If I can get 8.1 on the machine in good shape I will start rounding up software......Should be fun.......One good thing, I believe the hardware is OK and I will work on the laptop until I get it all working..........Patience!!!!!

Glad you are so handy with this techno stuff... As you may remember a storm lead, indirectly, to the demise of my old HP...

I learned a long time ago....It doesn't take much..........I saw the storm coming on my cell phone and just wasn't fast enough to get back here and shut everything down.......To bad, I lost a really good setup and a backup drive was fried with everything on it gone in the process................

I've always backed up to a hard drive hooked up to the trading machine.......always on a schedule.......I may have to change that with the weather the way it is here.....

The refurb I bought HP 6930p was a high end number in 09'... List about $2100. Pre Pentium days... Has a Centrino dual core 2.4 ghz processor, and 8 GiG memory, 320 GiG HD. Came thru with 4 GiG memory, and I added 4 GiG.... Probably unnecessary...

Drawback... Screen size...14 inch diagonal.... Not bad, really....

The most improvement you can make to your computer is to add ram (memory) ......It is the cheapest upgrade and it gives you the most bang for your buck......

OS... Windows 7 pro 64 bit... fresh, with absolutely no bloatware... I like it...

Well, the Toshiba I was expecting to get as a hand-me-down, has a Pentium 5, 500 GiG HD, 4 GiG memory, running Win 8.1... It is faster, but not by much...

My Brides financial computer is a 64 bit machine with 6 gigs of ram.....It is a very strong machine running Win 7 Pro.......I have a big battery system set up on that machine.....It will stand an atomic bomb and keep on trucking......Very expensive though.......I still may have to do that to my side of the office to protect the equipment.............

I am very pleased with this computer. Completely unmarked... Like new... 1 yr parts and labor included in price... no add-on...
