Since the beginning of this thread it was working perfectly. But today was the first day i had to take the losses both from AUD and GBP news...

Don't fear the NFP, guys. Same system but closed manually for 25 pips and a tasty risk/reward.

Hello all, I have read through this topic and I am unsure on one thing, how do you select the entry level. Is it an entry straddles the close of the bar 10 minutes prior to the news by a set amount?

Slow news day on the continent today. As for GBP Retail Sales m/m, this was choppy as hell in the seconds leading up to it and afterwards. It's my humble option this system would never work for a long term consistent gain for leaving only 10 pips as protection for trading red news. For instant, your positions would get stopped out 100% on any FOMC or NFP release.

You have ignored the very key fact that news release will break any technical indicators over time.
Why? Simple and in general,

  1. Technical indicators is built based on past history and price data.
  2. Market reacting to financial news is hardly consistent due to the over economy condition at that time.

​Purely depends on TA and indicators while leaving only 10 pips as protection is just unrealistic. And what about slippage? and what about most the broker disable the trade second after news release?

It works fine if u have a good broker, that doesn't fuck you with spread, insane slippage, order filling etc. Conclusion it works in theory.

The risk management (10-pip stop) you used is just NOT realistic to handle the new trading. That's the only thing i would look to judge if one is making a good system or not.

The price action during first 10 minutes news release stands alone, unique and unpredictable. This system won't be able to handle it without any fundamental studies involved, or at least a good designed risk management to protect your asset. 10-pip stop just won't do the magic.

And for the broker, anyone using the biggest broker in US, FXCM, you won't be able to make a position within the first 5-10 minutes after news release. You order just didn't go through, period. I trade news, and with FXCM, i say so because i know so.

Dear Traders,

I am hoping to find an indicator which tells me whether the outcome of a news release is either good or bad for that currency.

Hello,

First of all I don't know if this thread is active or not, but I wanted to share my experience of my 1 month testing with real account and 1 month backtesting.

1. My account is ECN from FXTM broker. Basically zero spread account for major pairs which will be needed for this system.
2. For this month I only used EURUSD as you all know that it has major volatility than any other pairs. Also for backtesting same pair EURUSD.
3. For rules, I used same rules as author of the post mentioned. 5 pips TP and 10 pips SL. For stop orders I zoom out vertically my mt4 chart. TF 15 min.
4. Now for the news I have selected 3 major news for USD which has more than 50 pips movement. These are the news which I tested on both backtest and on real.

1. USD CPI m/m

USD Core CPI m/m = <50 pips


2. Average Hourly Earnings m/m

Non-Farm Employment Change

Unemployment Rate = <50 pips


3. Fed Chair Powell Speaks = <50 pips


  1. Reason behind this 3 news is that, you will get spike in 1-2 minute of the news with high volatility in same direction, so your stop order will always get executed and completed.
  2. So for next I will post screenshots if anyone is interested and will try to add GBPUSD pair also as both have same movement in these 3 news I have checked that.
  3. And I know ratio of tp to sl is not good but I am positive that these 3 news event will almost always give you nice spike of more than 30 pips which we need.
  4. With good lot size this alone will be enough for some stable monthly returns.

Results:
This month till now I have traded on all this 3 news event and hit tp of 5 pips. So total 15 pips.
