Hi Cogs, I use Beeks Vps for my MT4 ECN account and checked that no updates were forced recently on my platform, i also contacted ICM support regarding this, they clarified that that they haven't forced any update on client terminal nor has metaquotes done it. I suggest you contact your VPS provider regarding this issue and get it clarified.

Slight OT but couldn't find a better place...

If you're with ICMarkets and subscribe to signals on MQL5, I suggest you go check your signals. ICM changed their server names this weekend so subscriptions no longer match up with the broker. From what I can see, you will need to re-subscribe to all signals.

FYI, MetaQuotes changed the server names back to the original due to the problems. Demo servers and Live3 are OK but Live2 still bugged

Interestingly, I've had constant communications from MQL5 service desk on trying to sort this problem out for everyone but not a single reply from IC Markets. It's the second support request I've tried with them and the 2nd time I've been completely ignored. Submitting an application to Pepperstone tomorrow....

I am not quite sure of how you are linking any association between my VPS provider and ANY mt4 or server updates? My VPS provider operates completely independent of any brokerage and trading software.

My biggest gripe as stated previously, is no reply via contact form on their website, and server and platform changes and updates completely without and notification. I thought there was some feedback (via this forum) which has helped clarify the lack of customer service, not sure what happened to that?

Totally agree unfortunately. Execution and spreads have been fantastic but customer service is appalling

As BSFilter mentioned, the Spread and execution in IC Markets is definitely better than most other brokers out there. I do agree that there was a issue earlier this month during a impact news, this was acknowledged by their Head of trading desk in a FPA discussion and he has confirmed that they are already in the process of implementing a solution to improve the connectivity. If at all your Execution was problematic at any other time, i suggest you Please contact their support.

Not sure, cogs. When i contacted their support they had acknowledged that they had not forced any update on client terminal nor has metaquotes done it, so i thought you might have a managed vps who could have updated it manually.

Regarding their support, I usually contact their Live chat to get instant help/clarifications. Rest assured, contacting their support is going to get much easier, I have been told that ICMarkets will have a support executive in Forexfactory very soon to directly handle queries and provide support.

I have made my mind up on this broker after over a year with them. Unless I see major changes after this latest server update I will be closing my acc. It's not just during news releases that this broker goes offline but any time there is slight volatility. Anytime price leaves the current range all orders are paused sometimes upto over 30 seconds disabling any advantage of an early entry even if the move is low pipage. I recently sent an email to ICM showing my journal of a 20sec order during non-news with a 40pip slip with the further 12sec close and the corresponding order on another of my brokers with .3sec execution. No response. What I once thought was a safe broker do now believe the delays are intentional and ICM are now being thrown into the waste basket of a scam broker.

I don't trade news and I don't scalp and I've personally never had any unreasonable slippage whilst using ICM. Matts, your ordeal does sound pretty strange and I sure as hell can't explain that one. But as for the support on the issue, I think you fell into the same zen desk blackhole that my queries were sucked into.

I'm glad to say that I have received several emails and phone calls from ICM over the last 24 hours to get to the bottom of both the problem with the server issues over the weekend and the general issues with support.

IMHO I still think they have an issue with the zen desk support but I believe they are actually working to do something about it. The fact that they bothered to follow up with me numerous times today does give me a fair bit of hope.

But I think I'll be following up any request to the support email with a prompt phone call and live chat until the zen desk issue is sorted. I'd also suggest they do a risk management plan any time they make a major change like last weekend and maybe extend support hours to cover their a$$ (and mine!).

So all in all, I think a pretty negative experience turned into a reasonably positive one. We all f#k up. As long as we acknowledge it, adapt and try to improve, i can't really ask for more than that.

You're right, that's the truth.
I do not think scam but if neglected, technically.
They can predict when will the server be saturated in times of congestion (impact news)
M. IC must expand capacity without waiting clients that make strong claims.
In this planet is called good service.

Have you guys tried closing the Market Watch in MT4?

I've read and had first hand experience with it - closing the market watch will help MT4 performance over news and when there are a lot of ticks coming through.

I would also recommend closing non-necessary MT4 charts that you aren't trading on.

I kind of think that freezing in MT4 is perhaps more MT4 related than we like to think - pretty much all brokers that I have traded with have had freezing over news / volatile events. What are peoples thoughts on this? Anyone ran another platform (e.g. cTrader etc) side by side when these freezes occur?

I am running a super computer here with 4 screens and many programs. If you have an old computer with limited processing power then perhaps closing the market watch/ other platforms may help. During major news events delays are expected and slippage is expected and it would be an abnormality for otherwise (pls pm me a broker that doesn't). The problem is when a broker loses connection and trade management becomes impossible during these events, slippage or not. I have two other brokers (with main accounts) and neither of them freeze during news except maybe for a few secs during NFP occasionally. Not like ICM that freezes on a ff "yellow" news release. So that in itself should answer the platform question too. cTrader is good I've heard but I have MT4 add-on's that has been a deterrent to study it, but will make time eventually.

I just need to mention here that I said in my previous post I would give ICM the benefit of the doubt after their latest server updates (last weekend and perhaps this weekend too?) and I just checked my platforms "Journal" that is usually riddled "login" and "previous successful authorization performed from 120.111.111.11" meaning disconnections. However the journal is clear so far this week. Big week of news so shall know soon enough.

Hi Ras al Ghul,

The ‘freezing’ issue is not actually freezing at all. Freezing in the case of the MT4 server is when the hard drive cannot write to disk fast enough which causes the delay of quotes to a clients terminal. IC Markets problem is related to the connectivity between a clients terminal and the MT4 server.

To demonstrate this, this screen capture during the last NFP shows no ‘freezing’ or loss of connectivity from a x connected VPS. If it was freezing then this VPS would also be affected. https://vimeo.com/100176521
And yes, removing unecessary symbols from the market watch and unused charts reduces the load on the MT4 terminal and can improve its performance.

Not sure this could be the scenario in my case. I have a 4930k cpu and a R9270x graphics card and both will automatically overclock on high stress situations with a 6gbps SSD, read- 550mb/s, write- 510mb/s, plus 16 gig of ram (I need windows 8 to enable the 32 gig). If my computer can handle battlefield 4 on ultra settings with 60 people online (and can be all visible on deathmatch) then it should be able to handle a few price feeds imo as it does on other brokers feeds.

IC Markets chased me down after reading my posts. I think they have being taking steps to try to resolve the situation and time will tell. My platform has remained online all week so far which is a positive result but performance (slippage) is a little unknown as the majority of my trades are on another of my main brokers. If they can get their execution/connectivity sorted, then with the spread, especially for scalping would be good.

Try with a live account, you can't state a case with a demo account. Demo are for demonstration purposes only, obviously, and also there are many variables which effect your trades between demo and live.

I have used a VPS with CNS NY, and now use VPS in Melbourne AUS, no delays or connection problems with order fills +50 trades/day.

ICM demo is terrible for freezing. I had both live accounts and demo during NFP. My live I was able to manage during release with good execution, my demo was a nightmare though not important. Left my platform running all week and wasn't disconnected once. It seems things maybe improving as they are finally getting their shite together with news releases and other odd disconnections but it will take more than one good week to convince me. Will be a decent broker if they continue to manage the traffic.

I will update future performance.

Ak386, what exactly are you trying to prove here? why post something here out of context based on discussion that is happening elsewhere, creating unnecessary confusions.

Coming to the point, For god's sake why are you making a fuss with a Demo screenshot? As "Cogs" has already pointed it out a couple of posts back, You should understand that it is not possible to replicate a real trading environment on a Demo. Trades placed on demo aren't passed into the real market & therefore their execution will not directly comparable to trades placed on a Live. Demo trading accounts are designed to allow traders to become familiar with the trading platform and will never be able to provide an identical trading experience to a Live account.

In spite of all these, I can see that you have already received a official statement from ICM'S head of trading desk in Donna forum explaining what had happened in your Demo account and suggesting to use a VPS while attempting to trade news in order to avoid data loss and facilitate faster trade execution( Acknowledging the fact that ECN models are not the best for News Trading) I'm not sure what else you are waiting to hear!?
