I don't think it is stopping at 8840. I think we are heading much higher. shorts will also benefit but only in medium term. it is a painful ride down.

if you use the m30 candle close you see te highest close is 0.8809...and i put 2-3 more pips to b secured...if you watch te m30 rsi you can see in this moments lower highs, lower lows...to me at least for the coming period (hours...group of 4h) we will not see a new high. also h4 rsi is at 70...so, even if i want to buy i do not buy here

While I wish no one harm, overleveraged bulls should remember, against the backdrop of this to-be-proven breakout to new technical levels on NU, that NZ does have bad earthquakes from time to time.

Earthquakes are good for currency, check how JPY reacted after tsunami, strengthen 300 pips.

our NZD trader at our spot desk decided to get short some NZD here (>0.88)

He thinks that s/t positioning is stretched and market has lacked the follow through on a break above 88

However, warns it could get squeezy around the .8842 highs.. and if you short be ready to put up with some drawdowns.

Either way, he feels this is a good price to build shorts at for a move back into 86 handle.

Obviously FOMC later, but o/n vols aren't signalling much fear and it will likely come to little.

It seams to me, your trader is wrong like me, i'm short too. But i'm afraid we'll make a 50pips jump up and only then will have H4 correction.

Last major quake I can remember for NZ was last August, and the NZD dropped.

But, Wheeler was also speaking the next market day on how the NZD was overvalued and they had to watch out for housing bubbles.

The only reason the NZD is above 0.8 is because of that earthquake in Christchurch.

Short term it was bad because they cut rates (emergency)... Long term its super bullish, because reconstruction industry boomed and the economy got really strong.

The RBNZ cite the earthquake as the reason to why rates are being hiked now.
