Hi Saver, I would be interested to find out more about the indicators you have shown in the first two pages.
This thread is fantastic, I have been following Wyckoff style trading now for about 1-2 months and have boosted my account a bit. Still find range bound trading not so profitable, still some more to learn then hey.
I am currently using some of Sonic's indicators to give VSA.

Hi Standov,

As I mentioned previously. I am not planning to make any of these indicators public yet. I might in the future. I'm still testing and tweaking it myself. It's not a "holy grail" by any means

As for how it was made. I tried to figure out what volume is. The hint is, I used 1min data. In a way, we can take, 1min, 5min or 15min candles as one big tick. Think of what gspajon said about the velocity and you should have something similar

Let me know if you get stuck and needs more hints.

I am currently working a way to proxy that...if there is a way to access that information on my data feed I am not yet aware of that...however I am trying to come up with a way to proxy it with open interest. So far I am using only data from actual transactions both real time and historical.

My first thought about using pull and/or refreshing of bids and offers is that HFT does this on a very large scale which could create anomalies (greater than those I've already mentioned). Since HFT algos will constantly refresh or pull bids/offers several times a second, I'm not sure how that information will provide an advantage for me. My goal here is to balance the variables to discover where the actual participants are trading and compare that to the ensuing price action, thereby creating an advantage...

So far I having a string of good luck, but its a new week now so everything starts over.

Wyckoff and volume analysis are good. But not all of it has uses in Forex in my opinion, you have to go by process of elimination to find what you think would give your strategy an edge. Somethings in forex happen just because the market is different. The best advice I can give anyone is just try to find market imbalances, Using Volume analysis and just trade them without worrying too much about much else,stuff like "jumping the creek" and "breaking the ice" those investigative tools for wyckoff have met there match in the forex market. For any other market though most if not all of what wyckoff said can be used.

Thanks! Yep, my hack job, about it being "biphasic" - I wanted to have a clear graphical interpretation of up-interest and down-interest, therefore the +ve and -ve separation. But I'm still working on it, a bit too fuzzy for my taste.
I don't determine green from red, my development platform (non MT) "does it for me", obviously if current value is higher than previous, it plots green and vice versa for red.

I finished my strength versions, three of them, will post them shortly as well.

Strengths are below. Only difference is in the velocity part, to me it seemed I can look at velocity in three different ways, apparently they show basically the same thing, give or take couple of details.

Now it's time to see if I can beat reasonable signals out of those, but it's quite off-mark from your benchmark, Billy!

This only applies if you are looking at a reliable data source. Otherwise, it will drive you crazy.

Do we get the open interest data for forex currency symbols ? I guess that would be from a single broker only and that will not be able to combine the open interest information from other brokers.

great idea. i had a similar idea and asked for coding help at forex-tsd but noone took me up on it.

this was basically my post:

anyone I want to give this a go whirl.....

every time a range bar prints check to see if time requirement met, if so draw a line or new candle . AND every time a time bar prints check to see if range bar requirement is met. if met draw line/new candle


for example suppose you used 4 ticks as range bar size requirement and 30 seconds as the time requirement. <Calculated based on average range per timeperiod<)THEN:
price moves 4 ticks first then 31 seconds elapses: yes a bar is printed. also 31 seconds elapses firstly then price moves 4 ticks yes a bar is printed. each time both requirements are met a bar prints.that's it. price requirement met + time requirement met = bar. order it happens doesn't matter. you don't need any database. a regular candlestick already prints a bar once every x time passes, and a regular range bar already prints a bar once every range happens. just combing them to have both requirements. that's it. perhaps think like this. overlay a range bar chart over a candlestick chart draw a line any time after both of them print a bar. from that line, do the same: wait for both to print a bar. draw another line. its not that complicated. perhaps you want to measure the past to see the atr to see what good x time and y range would be to get it close to 1 to 1.

Perhaps this will accomplish smoothing of data better than Ehlers or any of the other ways so far found. God bless all!

PS i believe this would be the beginning of a great adaptive filter made by price itself and is exactly what gann was doing in his work...relating price to time, + considering both.


what you have stated may work better or worse than my idea. id on't know. Can someone please code this and post it here for us all to test. I'll happily show how i think it can be traded once that is done. TYIA
