Fibonacci Settings

I wonder if there is a way to set fibonacci levels, colours, levels etc. on one MT4 platform and then be able to take these settings to another by taking a file to dump into the new platform ?

If so what file needs to be saved & moved ?

Greetings,

Go to: MT4 config folder, locate the ' terminal Configuration Settings ' - file, copy this file into your other MT4 config folder.

(this terminal file also contains other settings as well as the settings for the Fibonacci tool).

I wil try that, It doesn't move account numbers or anything like that does it ?
Its just that it's a pain when you have to reset all the colours, levels etc. in the MT4 built in fibonacci indicator

please explain exactly what you are after.

...if you wish to migrate your existing Fib Tool settings over to a second instance of MT4, follow the steps as explained in my previous post of this thread.

For advanced Fibonacci Tool Retracement/Extension/Projection levels you can learn/read/see this thread here.

Related to your question re fibs...in MT4 when you plot fibs with the fibonacci retracement tool from the Line studies toolbar it plots retracements as 23.6, 38.2, 50, and 61.8% by default...Is there any way of adding in the 76.4% by default without having to do it manually every time ?

This procedure still works but I'm curious, anyone know what those "other settings" might be?

I haven't seen anything else changed

There is no load/save function in MT4 Fibo properties/levels, that I am aware of. I want to save my current Fib levels into a file, then enter Russell Wave levels and use them for a while, then save them and go back and load my original Fib levels.
Is there any way to do this, or am I stuck with laboriously manually deleting/adding the various Fib/RW settings?

Your Fib settings, once you save them on a chart they are stored in DataFolder / config /terminal as text. (need to scroll down the file to find them).
So theoretically you could save another config /terminal file and switch them as you need to.

The next solution would be to code anoter fib indicator separately.

"config/terminal.ini" is re-read by the terminal each time the Fibonacci tool is used. MetaTrader therefore does not cache the most recent settings in memory, but reads them each time the Fibonacci tool is used from the file. The file is a simple ".ini" file and a DLL is required for writing outside of the "MQL4/Files" folder. As this is too advanced for most users here, I would like to leave it at that. Predefined Fibonacci settings could be selected from the context menu of the Fibonacci button in the toolbar itself.

Multiple Fibonacci presets are a frequently requested feature. When I have more time I will think about integrating it into my MT4Expander and publish it. For the moment I don't have the time resources. Sorry. :-)

Years ago I saw a toolbar that does exactly as Emmzett describes. Click on the style you want -- for any object -- and it would edit the terminal.ini file accordingly. Then when you draw an object, it was exactly the selected style. (Ideally such a tool would update the terminal.ini file for ALL open terminal.exe 's (MT4 sessions) so that you could use multiple MT4's, but only one toolbar; otherwise, it's too hard to keep track of which DLL toolbar is for which MT4).

Very nice toolbar (and not publicly available AFAIK, but I haven't looked), but I have my own private tools that do something similar. Suits my needs.

There is another way that works too. If you have a chart set up with your templates of objects (e.g. Fibo1 Fibo2), then when you want to switch your defaults, you go to that chart, select the object, Edit Properties, and explicitly select each of the tabs, usually Common, Fibo Levels, and Parameters are enough. Close the object (unchanged).

Now when you go and draw another similar object, the settings will match the object that you just reviewed the properties of. A bit tedious, but it works.

You could just code a standalone indicator that does the fib caculations, lines & prices for you, which does not affect the built-in MT4 fib tool at all.

Jeanlouie has done exactly that with his Rulers and rectangle ruler bars indicators, which I find very useful. I can set the 2 indicators to different settings and have a button object to "activate it " onto the chart, and drag into place.
