Hey JR97,

I am a fan of yours actually. I have been following your posts since long before I learned how to scale a chart properly.

What I meant by how you scale your chart on MT4 was that I know MT4 doesn't give you the option to scale price per days/weeks/months, so I was trying to find out "IF" people were using an indicator to do that.

In wave59 you have the scaling capability by default. I believe I scale charts properly.

It is a pleasure hearing from you Chad.

Ah, I see. I came to the realization that, while scaling is important for chart geometry work, it's all about relativity between the "objects on the canvas". Sort of like in junior high art class where you take a picture, put a grid on it, and then re-draw the picture. The grid dimensions don't matter. They're just there for reference. Same with charting. I've plugged in all sorts of values for scaling and square dimensions etc and in the end it didn't matter what I used. The same patterns emerged regardless. And it's repeatable and discernable patterns that I trade. Think of the broken clock that is correct twice a day theory. Knowing it's going to be correct twice a day is all the pattern I'd need to put a bet on it. Who cares what the face of the clock looks like.

MT4 allows for scaling. Here's my chart, 1x1 angle is exactly 45°.

Spot on explanation. I agree - though I work hard to keep the scales right because the aesthetics of geometry, especially when it looks right on the chart, gives me a sense of confidence while amazing me. I am a big fan of sacred geometry.

Funny, I spent so much time and effort to learn scaling, geometry and gann related stuff but when the turning points were there I found out, the hard way, that I didn't really know how to trade. The psychology aspect of trading, which is huge IMHO, entry strategies and exit strategies wasn't there for me when it was time to pull the trigger. I learned the hard way and still working hard to improve my skills.

I respect you for your intelligence and envy you for you ability to code your own stuff.

The funny thing about most Gann enthusiasts is that they focus on the esoteric because that's where the sexy is. Yet if you go back to Gann's writings, he spends a lot of time going over how to do the simple things like trade higher highs and lower lows and just using basic trend following techniques. The esoteric stuff is just to get an idea on when the higher highs/lows are going to come in. He also preached to not trade reversals. Only the pull backs and continuations. Yet how many Gann enthusiasts are after the glory of getting the big reversals or calling every turn? I myself was one of those for a very long time. It was good for the ego and showing off on the forum but it actually did wonders of the worst kind for my actual trading since ego and profitability aren't exactly the best bed mates.

Now my focus is probably 80% psychology, execution, and consistency. I find myself trading with much more ease by starting off with simple higher highs/lower lows and only going to the esoteric stuff to get the timing. I'm not nailing the turns spot on like I used to but I"m also only in front of the charts maybe 30 minutes a week total anymore if that. I still do a lot of research, experimentation, and what not, but that's completely separate from actual trading chart time.

Another huge epiphany I had years ago is similar to yours... seeing the stuff be spot on doesn't mean squat if you don't know how to trade. Do you ever get hesitant and not pull the trigger only to end up chasing price once you saw your analysis was correct? I still do that if I spend too much with the analysis. Hence my focus on simple trend following techniques and using the esoteric stuff for general timing on the dips/rallies. I also use stop/limit orders to get in about 90% of the time. I don't always get every pip but I also don't stare at the screen at 3:00 am. If I don't get triggered who cares.

Also, learning balance has been crucial. I've always been in decent shape because I play hockey and ride the bike quite a bit, but now I've cleaned up my diet, added quite a bit of mediation, and re-focused my life on having experiences and learning lessons. It's done wonders for my trading psychology. Kinda weird how that works.
