Do scalpers make money in the long run?

Well as we have witnessed scalpers "in the long run" usually turn to fantasy land where you can trade at 100% accuracy 0 draw down and take a $1000 account and turn it into 500 billion dollars in just 3 weeks... Nice for some.

scalping is the only way to make serious money here, when I say scalping I mean:

"the ability to read price action in its finest details and build the courage in trying to take profit out of it".

Now, this may seem easy for some or many would like to believe this it is, but is not, actually it is fucking extremely difficult. Is it doable? Of course it is, like anything in life, but only a few can master it, many will be lost on the way because they will underestimate the difficulty in mastering it, many will not have enough passion to stick to it, many have not the courage to learn it, many…….many…..many….

scalpers do not really scalp at all.. But UN diversify by way of market conditions and expose a large amount of their equity at risk all at once ( under the same landscape)..

For example I am a scalper I trade 50 times per day at 1% risk per trade aiming for 1:1./..

1% sounds nice, but at the end of the day I have paid the spread 50 times!! and risked 50% of my account (50 x 1%) in the process... Think about that...

I would want to hope there's no behind the doors deals going on this day... You would wanna hope it's not your demographic providing liquidity this day...

Great return in % can be made by intraday traders and mostly scalper. The question is on the thread title, for how long? before burning out, or become all victim of randomness.
Charts says it all, you have long term move, and the short term scalp, even big investment banks like goldman and jpmorgan have employees ready to scalp. 50mil$ + leverage will barely move the market a couple pips if traded through interbank via ecn.
For your information, oanda has a max trading size of 100lots per trade.

Mindgame...sorry dude. I had no idea there were so many bashers preferring to trash talk rather than offer any productive advice. I wasn't always rich. Back in the day we didn't have food stamps; we had commodities. Having no silver spoon made me humble, but also ambitious to change my situation. I am really sorry that my magnetic personality draws all these guys to chase me into your thread. No worries though. I DJ'd for 14 years while I was in the military, so I have learned quite a lot about dealing with jerks.

Allow me to offer my opinion to your query, based on my experience. If you want to scalp 5-10 pips and quit the market, the first thing that affects you is a bit of greed. Today, the market volatility is not very good, but even a year ago 5-10 pips would turn into 50-100. So you would be sitting there wondering why you exited so quickly. Then anxiety will attack because you want to grab another 5-10 since it is so heavily in your favor, but you are unsure of the market reversal point now because you exited way too early.

So you are sitting there wondering if you should roll with the move or counter trade it. It starts stair stepping so you decide to counter and wham, you lose. What is your stop loss? 10 pips? So if you lose 10 pips every time you gain 10 pips, you also lose 2 spreads. If your stop loss is even higher, and you let it trigger, that is X amount more times you have to win. Now, in addition to greed and anxiety, you can add pressure to succeed. As your account fades away you begin to doubt yourself. Well, the whole time it had nothing to do with you. You were just using a technique that didn't match your needs or abilities.

You are on the right path though my friend. I was that guy many years ago. I thought I could use my stock market techniques in Forex, but I was wrong. So, I thought, hey, just grab a few pips here and there. But, with volume of trades came lack of profit. Oh, I won a lot more than I lost. I could easily win 90% of the time, but at the end of the day, all my wins were not enough to overcome my one loss. What is more important to you? The number of trades you win, or the amount of money you win? So my focus turned to figuring out how to know when the market actually turns. In other words I was already confident I knew when to enter because I could win a lot of trades. I had to figure out when to exit, and not by setting a pip value or a profit target. I wanted to know when to "actually" exit with as much certainly as I knew when to enter. It took me about 6 years to find a consistent method. But, I figured it out. In time, I hope you do not have to take so long, but I can tell you that all the things I learned along the way are worth their weight in gold.

It is a real shame that people in a trading forum feel it is not only okay, but their God given right to challenge successful traders. They have never known success so they believe it is not possible anymore. To me, this means you have quit. So, if you have quit, why are you here? Again, sorry Mindgame, but they seem to follow me because in reality they are curious and think I am going to slip up and give them some real advice so they can get their edge back. Instead of logical discussion, they bully me with insults and then I am supposed to "prove" myself. LOL. The world does not work that way unfortunately. Money talks, and bs walks. And, more often than not, those that are walking throw their bs all over the rest of us.

I don't know anything about hookers or other guy's junk. But there ya go. Class or trash. Mindgame, I wish you luck in your pursuits because like I said, been there, done that. If you have the ambition to continue looking for a way to conquer this market, then a day will come when you will realize something is not right. That something is this: There is no consistent moving average crossover, and nearly every indicator is written against a moving average. You are doomed to failure if you trade the way they want you to. You have to transcend the math and determine what is the core of it all. Then you can easily track it and beat it. It is not simple, but when the frustration of 5-10 pip scalping finally overtakes you, some of this will start making sense to you. I did it, I know a few other traders who also did it, and in time you can do it too.

You cannot walk onto a basketball court and expect to be Michael Jordan on your first day, or even your first year. You have to dedicate yourself to the craft and train your mind and body through experience. Again, sorry for the bashers. Like I said, they have quit and want the rest of us to join them. Hey milam, trading has been profitable but slow, been getting my professional career started and so I've been putting a lot of time and money into interviews and my upcoming move and getting all the stuff ready for that. I guess I just haven't been on FF for a bit since most of the discussion here has lost my interest. How have things been on your end?

And with regards to scalping...I don't scalp, and I don't believe it's the "only way" to make money by any means, but I know a couple of people who are quite successful at it and don't do anything risky. Just good entries and exits.

Here's the problem friend. You're teaching people to follow you when you're still stuck in the holy grail phase of trading. You're using a cocktail of indicators
with "just the right settings" to make you profit. But no combination of arbitrary indicators is ever going to make you rich, because the consistency isn't there. I've seen people with your level of confidence hang around preaching your gospel and then in the next week be on a new systems thread asking for help. In that screenshot you posted earlier, you had what most people would consider an obvious "downtrend". Anybody can get lucky, but the market doesn't fall forever and the real test of your strategy is done over time after the market has shown you how volatile and unforgiving it can be to such traditional TA. In order to profit consistently, you need to understand underlying market mechanics and order flow. I'm sorry if that hurts your feelings but it is in all likelihood the truth. I hope you will not chalk this up to "jealousy" or "quitting" - it is nothing of the sort.

I really enjoyed the preamble about not being rich and then being rich and how you got rich with your secret moving average crossover settings.. But I felt it lacked something, perhaps a touch of patience. I think you played the silver spoon card way too early, for in light of your previous posts this was really not an emotional moment. You should have waited until someone actually tapped your sack until tearing up.

I already got the job, pal. The "job" I have is a career working with some of the poorest children in the country who have long been forgotten by the majority. It is a career I find to be fulfilling and honest, and trading is something I want to use to supplement my career income, not necessarily replace it with. So fuck you.

Let me be very clear about my trading activity. I profit. I don't profit to the point that my account is growing by leaps and bounds like my friends do, but I know a thing or two about trading more than you do and I continue to learn as most of us do.

I do both swing trading and scalping, swing trading like you said is ok, but slow also, much easier, scalping suits me best, but needs a lot of work, a lot of dedications, knolledge and concentration……I did not say it is the only way, I said if you want make serious money is the way, 1% average a day is doable, I know traders that can do better than that, but am not at that level yet….. my way when works well is a combination of scalping with day trading, meaning, I let partial profit run when better moves occurs.

I do not think many are able to scalp efficiently, it is much harder…...

Finally, why are you so rude to the people who start these threads? They start them to talk about trading and developing their skills and then jerks like you come into their thread, make up stories about other members and try to demonize them. I will tell you what is obvious to other people. You have nothing of value to contribute. That is all that really matters. Criticizing my method of trading because I can only make 4 times as much as you is one thing. Making personal attacks though, it shows that you are trash. Look around, well outside your neighborhood. Do you see successful people ranting and raving about other successful people? Or do you see poor broke losers talking trash about everyone and never getting ahead in life because no one likes them because they do not like anyone. You really got to lighten up Francis. Read the book Think and Grow Rich and observe all the mistakes you are making to the path of wealth. Hating on people is at the top of the list.
