Can anyone tell me how to re-attach the navigator and the market watch window to the main window? I double clicked on the tab and it separated them into two separate tabs, and I can't seem to get them back to how they were.

Simply double-click on their titlebars again.

This is one that I-don't-think anyone has offered yet:

In any line/text properties window, Ctrl + tab and Ctrl + Shift + tab will switch settings-tabs.

Yes it's the standard set of keys in Windows for switching between tabs.

That's true; it will work on many other programs as-well !

The 'settings' window is a common place for this, such-as in MetaEditor, and WinRAR.

Guys is there a way to control a certain chart through an indicator or EA? I know you can read stuff like WindowPriceMax() and WindowFirstVisibleBar() but can you also set it? In other words can some code scroll your chart for you, can it compress or extend price scale etc? I'm working on something and it would come very very handy. So far my searching suggests it's not possible, at least not using mql4 alone.

Thanks for the reply. That was the first thing I tried but it didn't work since I'm using Metatrader on a Mac with CrossOver.
I had to reinstall the program to get it back to how it was.

Is there a way to maintain studies/horizontal lines that I draw on a chart, when I change the template? It is very unfortunate that every time I select different template I lose all my drawings.......

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If your drawings are delete when you switch between timeframes, that's because of an indicator or EA you may have on chart which has the super magic ObjectsDeleteAll() function coded in ...

Try saving the current template before switching to a new template. Then all you have to do is load the previous template back on each time.

Do you lose your studies/lines etc. when you switch timeframes ?

If you do then, like FerruFx says you have a badly coded indicator or EA on your chart.

My bad. He was talking about switching template not TF ... So yes your solution is the one to be considered.

EDIT: found an answer but leaving this up for anyone else.
To scroll through the Metatrader MT4 charts use CTRL + F6, or CTRL + Shift + F6 to go the other way, this will cycle through the charts available without need for mouse clicks.

Apparently MT4 can have lots of charts, 99 I think I read but then you have to scroll along the bottom. It only displays 15 tabs so each time you want to check all charts you have to click to move the tabs along. If you had 99 then that's 84 clicks to cycle through each time.

I don't need 99 charts but I do have more than 15 open. Is there a utility that can show 2 or 3 rows along the bottom rather than just the one.?

For a long time I've been wondering about the fact that MT4 doesn't offer an easy way to re-arrange the order of the Indicator Windows. Indeed, when you're tweaking or developing a trading system, it's very normal to add/delete Indicator Windows and wanting to shift them up and down at will (for instance, I like the slower indicators to be at the bottom of my charts, while putting the faster ones closer towards the Main Window (which is 'Window 0', by the way).

After searching for a solution on the internet, I finally gave up and used the 'real pain' method, i.e. deleting and adding indicators 'till they were (again) in the right order...

The solution is surprisingly simple though: just open the template of the chart that has the Indicator Windows in the 'wrong order' with any text editor. Then use the edit/search feature to find 'window_num=1' and change this number to the desired rang order of Indicator Windows, as you want them to be on your charts. To see the name of the Indicator Window at hand, just look one or two lines above 'window_num=' for the text 'name=****' (for instance: 'name=RSI_Divergence_v2'). The funny thing is, you would suppose that changing the Indicator Window number would do the trick, but it doesn't :-) You'll have to select the whole text for each seperate Indicator Window (from <window> to </window>, including these tags) and put them in the exact order you want them to be on your charts! This sounds more 'painful' than it really is, just use 'copy and paste' to do it. After you've assigned the right numbers to the Indicator Windows and put the <window> bla bla bla </window> in the desired order, from number 1 down to the last number (copy/paste), you'll have to save this modified template and then apply it (again) to your chart(s).

So, in short, the way to do it is:

1. open the desired template in a text editor (maybe best save it under another name, before you change any text/code).
2. find 'window_num=1' (read the 'name=' tag, straight above it, for the name of the Indicator Window).
3. change these numbers to the desired order you want the Indicator Windows to appear on your charts, from 1 to x, where 1 is closest to the Main Window.
4. do this for all your Indicator Windows ('window_num=1', 'window_num=2', etc.)
5. for every Indicator Window, copy/paste all text from <window> to </window> (including these tags) so they appear in the 'template text' in the same order as you want the Indicator Windows to appear on your chart(s).
6. save your modified template and apply it to your chart(s) - normally, for this you don't have to open/close MT4 again.

That's it! All in all a rather simple way to get rid of some of the annoyances that result from the MetaQuotes inability to provide traders with features that would make their lives so much easier :-)

MT4 Problem ... Charts Lost

Hi Guys, would appreciate any advice from some of you experienced MT4 users. Logged into my MT4 and found most of the charts of my usual pairs gone except for my E/U ones. Tried checking the dropdown menu "File, Open Deleted" but nothing appears, and I certainly didn't delete like 10 currency pair charts accidentally either....Grrr!...any ideas of where I might find them before I start "building" them all up again?

Mmmm, I was aware of others having problems with new builds but thought once I didn't do it myself manually I'd be ok, I just checked and see I'm on Build 610 (14th Feb) ... so it's a "fait accompli" and nothing to be done? ...ie my charts are gone and I'll just have to do them all again I suppose? ...progress, ya can't beat it

No problem guys, rebuilt my charts no big deal, and now much leaner with less indis & clutter than before!
