I think we might be seeing one of those fundamentally driven moves against USD? I'm by no means any fundamental expert however I keep seeing stuff being written about USD losing its reserve currency status and a lot of credibility over the last 2 weeks. If so - or if the market is acting as if it might be so - then *if* China could be viewed as a contender then my (limited) understanding is that AUD does a lot of trade with china so... I'd be interested in our esteemed panel's views on the position of AUD with all this speculation on safe haven...
As I stated earlier, today's USD bashing is more likely related to a sell off in US treasuries that are set to expire around Jan and Feb which is when the next debt limit mini-crisis is set to rear its ugly head again. Add to that the almost certain fact that the Fed will not taper in October, and you've got yourself a mini USD meltdown. It shouldn't last though.
