oh man, you brought a subject that has been my focus this last week...
so the chinese recently announced to the world that they infact own a LOT more gold than they had previously disclosed (6kt as opposed to 1kt)
stack this to the fact that they have been signing bilateral currency swap agreements left right and center
and they want to bring the consumption/production balance into harmony at a domestic level
and the fact that global trade is expected to have a growing impact on world GDP/growth
and the fact that Bernanke is dropping bombs on the USD and starting currency wars across the globe
you have a case for a proper gold backed currency... (not a reserve currency mind you)
Im gonna be in Singapore at the end of the year talking to some banks, because its one of the few places in the world where non-chinese can get RMB exposure via bank FD's
salivating at the thought of actual capital preservation in the longer term...
@PT, i think this may be a better solution than the Lebanese Pound for you
