Been studying price action lately, only problem is I'm not able to spend hours a day looking at each chart all at once... I can have 1 chart open and check it every few hours, but trying to keep tabs on even just 2 or 3 gets crazy very quickly. So alas I'm missing out on some of the funnest movement.

Since so much seems to be centered around trends and swing low/high it seems like a decent little idea. Something that could detect a change or a sudden low (within say X amount of time) and/or a sudden high, then play a little tone and pop up an alert that says "hey, keep an eye on xxx/yyy"

Anyone know of anything like that?

Many thanks for this. In inputs, the miniBars default value is 2. What happens if it's changed? Does 2=2lower highs either side of a high to qualify? Trying to work it out from the chart but it's difficult as all the swings are linked - thought a coder could answer this v quickly!

Also, I have ZigZag indicator from this forum (attached). This has more variables (default values given);

ExtDepth 12
ExtDeviation 5
ExtBackstep 3

Would someone mind explaining these?

Many thanks!

Dave

PS. Have attached the Swing_ZZ if there are people who haven't seen it but like it or comment on it

DRGS,
Not sure what the various settings mean. However, if you are looking for swing chart or overlay, then setting all the values to 1, gives a reasonable swing overlay.
It's not perfect, as it doesn't handle outside days the way Gann described them, but it's the closest indicator I can find ATM.

Cheers

Wener, The swing indicator, the way I have it implemented, identifies the highs and the lows. It is helpful in reducing the 'noise' in the chart, if you want to measure ranges, either in time (high to high, low to high, high to low, etc), or price distances (high to low, low to high).

Cheers,

mkhpd

Hi all, I am a Spanish trader. First, I apologize for my bad English. I'll explain what I need.

I trade DAX. When start the day, we usually start with Gap, so previous day's closing and opening of this day are different

So, the indicator that I need:

- Two horizontal lines (opening day and previous day close). Opening (time 8:00). Close (time: 21:45). [In chart: red and green lines]. Sometimes it will close above the opening and other times it will be backwards. [The line is above: green. The line that is below: red]

Greetings to all and thanks in advance

See "look-at-this.png" file I attached. It is my demo account screenshot of half a day of trading results using only micro lots with 1:50 leverage. This EA uses the swing zz indicator.

I've tested the swing zz indicator on my live accounts, with above excellent results. I did not do extensive testing with it though. My opinion is this.. this indicator appears stable on the H1. I think it should perform well on higher timeframes too. . However, basing a trade on any zigzag indicator on lower then the 1 H .. I would not recommend. Considering only 1h timefame and above. That is just my opinion. Please make your own decision, what seems to work for me may not work for others.

5 prior trades in a row.. ALL PROFITABLE, and then the trade of doom happens. I reset the EA to a higher timeframe.. on the 4H. Let's see how much of this trade I can recover hopefully, and then see how this indicator continues to perform on the 4H. This is a live trading screenshot. I will post here what happens if anyone is interested.

The losing trade was opened by the swing zz ea on the H1 timeframe. During the trade, I reset the ea onto the H4 timeframe in hopes of recovering some loss from the bad trade. The two winning trades after the losing trade occurred on the reset H4 timeframe. This ea may need to incorporate some kind of breakout price direction filter.. so any open position would be closed if price is breaking out in the opposing direction. Then, this ea my be safer to trade with.. I speculate.
