if we change the perspective, we may see the good as bad, or bad as good one,
but successful is defined as profitable. no mater how bad they trade, if they survived other will call them good trader.

I will be honest, this made my day, I had a good laugh with this and don't get me wrong, it was because it reminds myself in some aspects:

You see, I consider myself a successful trader, but not a great one, I win, but I also lose, I still have a lot of room for improvement, but I have noticed what things work for me and I'm stuck to them, I love news trading and swing trading, I admit I suck at scalping and don't even mention hedging, I'm the worst at that stuff, I also think I have made some profits thanks to a lucky day, and I have had loses in despite of a pro analysis (have a bachelor degree in finance and banking and I'm a CFA candidate) thanks to simply a bad day, maybe luck is not accepted here at all although I already mentioned it, who knows?; anyway, when I started, I used to have those bad cycles where you only lose because of the emotions and lack of autocontrol or excessive greed, after 2 years I learned that when the thing starts to get emotional (both winning or losing) is time to close the business for the day, tomorrow will be a new day which brings a new opportunity, if I'm having a bad streak I just get out for a week and then I come back, meanwhile I keep checking the market just to be updated.

It's hard to identify when the emotion makes its appearance but it's easy, when you start losing perspective of things and saying the f*ck it or BS words it's time to go home. I think we should never forget the basics and our very first days, when we started as somebody said, this will help you to figure out things and clear your mind and personally this reminds me how easy things can be and that there's no need to complicate ourselfs.

I have 3 years applying that strategy of getting out when the emotion appears (in despite of how good/bad the result is) and so far I'm having a solid extra income, I don't make a living with this because of the risk but hey, extra money is always good, don't you think?

I'm glad for the fact that we're not alone in this. Getting away from the screen when things get personal isn't easy but I totally agree with your perspective.


I think that discipline and courageous truth are the keys.

You write well with great diction and vocab so it is obvious that you are feel Intellectually superior. Trading however is a different ball game. May I suggest you to take the trader's psychology test by Van Tharp. It will help you look at your weaknesses and strengths more objectively.
