MT4 has been dead for ~4 hours now, what's up?

Some of us stare at the charts during weekends too

4 months have passed since jleblang from MB trading requested an example of my claim of grossly diminished liquidity hence much wider spread in MB trading marketplace and it's been 4 months since he got the example.

As I asked you several months back, which you never did, to please show me your data for a more current month. At this point, please show something like September 2013 or August 2013. The data you are showing is from January 2013, which was a light month for Forex trading. Less traders = less liquidity. I would like to see this data for several more recent months as I don’t believe that you will show the same results. Obviously, liquidity fluctuates month to month. To accurately represent your data, showing off two lone months 2 years apart doesn’t really tell us anything. Please give a more complete picture.

Justin, what would be involved in switching over from an MT4 account to using the MBT desktop for my trades? Not real happy with mt4 executions anymore. From all I have read the people using the desktop seem pretty satisfied. I currently have an mt4 live account. THANKS -Jim

I think a better comparison would be between different brokers. MB still has some of the best spreads out there. And they PAY YOU for limit orders. Not sure what he's complaining about.

1. Is there some sort of a bank guarantee program that you're offering for high dollar accounts? So, a big customer is protected in case something bad happens to MB. That would be my only reason to switch brokers at some point next year.

2. Are there any plans to allow customers to switch account base currency? The last time I called the help desk, I was told that I would have to do the conversion myself and send whatever currency I want my account to be in. That would be quite expensive for me to do.

I submitted the following question to MB Trading customer service (no reply yet, sent less than 24 hours ago) and I thought I'd post it here too for Justin or anyone else to comment on. I searched the forum and found some helpful info that potentially answers some of my questions, but I'd like to get confirmation from Justin and/or others that know for sure. The version below is edited (new comments in [] brackets) and differs a bit from what I sent customer service (and I'll post their reply here if I get one):

I have some questions about how the High Frequency Message Fee works in Forex accounts (I've closely read the description of it on the Misc. Fees page):

Does the fee apply for and/or is the messsage account affected by trailing stops (ie, changes to a filled order's stop-loss)? [My reading of this forum seems to indicate that the answer is yes.] More than 100 messages/symbol/day could easily be generated just from MT4's Trailing Stop feature (if a position moves 100 points/ticks in your favor after the trailing stop has activated).

Does the fee apply and/or is the messsage count affected by/for changes to a filled order's takeprofit? [It also seems that the answer is yes, but again, I'd like confirmation.]

Both these types of messages never lead to new executed orders, though if you define the count of "executed trades" as exiting an order as well as entering new orders, those types of messages can increase that count. Do they? In other words, does the count of "executed trades" go up for each order exit as well as order entry (no matter what type of message leads to that order exit)? [It seems the answer is yes.]

Furthermore, can a single message indicating a limit order and stoploss + takeprofit attached that gets filled at the openprice and exited at either the stoploss or takeprofit increase the "executed trades" count by 2 but the "messages" count by only 1 (if no further changes to the openprice, stoploss, or takeprofit were made)? [It actually seems, according to the post quoted below, that the answer is no, because, apparently, the filling of an order also counts as a message. So in the scenario I gave, if my understanding is correct, there would be 2 executed trades and 2 messages. Do partial fills on entries and exits also each count as both separate messages and separate executions?]

There is a sentence on the forex Misc. Fees page that says, "After that threshold, if less than 20% of the messages generated result in executed trades, the HFT fee applies and will be charged to your account after rollover." This sentence is referring to account-wide counts of "executed trades" vs. "messages generated" across all symbols, not per-symbol counts for those parameters - correct? [Apparently, the answer to this question is actually no - but again, I'd really appreciate confirmation. It appears that the fee is only charged for messages on those symbols that have more than 100 messages per day. Is the execution ratio also calculated independently for each symbol, though, or is it calculated globally? I would assume that if I'm not being charged for a particular symbol's messages, then executions on that symbol wouldn't be counted either, but I'd like confirmation.]

Finally, can you give any more specific insight into what "excessive messaging" means in the context of the sentence that reads, "Your account will be temporarily disabled if the excessive messaging persists." [Still in the dark on this question and definitely looking for Justin to weigh in here. And has anyone else ever had their account "temporarily disabled?"]

Thank you for sharing with me your insight into these questions. The answers greatly influence whether or not my automated trading system will be feasible to run on your brokerage - I'm hoping it is, but I don't want to be saddled with hundreds of dollars per day of messaging fees or have my account disabled. [Keeping my account at or above the 20% execution threshold each day could actually be a high-stakes affair if I'm sending thousands of messages per symbol per day, as being charged for 10,000 messages on a symbol would cost $50/day/symbol. I'm potentially one of those vaunted active customers - mentioned as desirable on this forum - who would be adding a lot of much-needed small liquidity to the EXN, but it takes messages to do so.]

[As an aside, this is hardly "high-frequency trading" as normally talked about, for instance, in books like "Dark Pools" and in the media in general. Those trades are happening in sub-millisecond, even nanosecond, turnarounds at servers co-located at exchanges. Such low-latency, truly "high-frequency" trading appears impossible at MB Trading, with a minimum 7ms latency if you're using the local VPS, and I find the usage of the term an annoying exaggeration of the situation in this context. Nothing against MB Trading in general, as I thank you for your offerings and all your efforts over the years at moving the forex market in a more fair and transparent direction.]

Did we all get "auto-updated" to MT4 build 574 today? I have and now a bunch of my indis and scripts are busted.

This happen to me too Friday. When i went to Mql4's website it looks like unless you have the mql4 file to create the ex4 file again the ex4 file will not work. That is all i could see about it and i havent heard back from MBtrading yet.

my latest build is 509 on 1/26-13 @ 11:59, everything seem ok??

If you haven't closed MT4 and started up again recently the auto update wouldn't have run. I would advise you NOT to close MT4 for a while and avoid this build for now.

Luckily I don't use indicators for my trading decisions...but I do use a couple informational indis for news etc...and scripts for order placement...most of which are no longer working.

If you did get updated to 574 and want to go back, the setup file on MBT's website is still 509...so I was able to uninstall and reinstall back to 509.

I've read posts elsewhere claiming that if you have multiple versions of MT4 (from other brokers or from Metaquotes directly) and you update one of them to 574, all the others will update as well. I do have other brokers' versions on my machine, including one from BTC-e for bitcoin trading. I'm now thinking that was the culprit. At first I thought it was an autoupdate rolled out by MBT, because I only opened my MBT platform...but I've realized that I had the BTC-e version running on Friday last week, so it may have picked up the 574 update and caused MBT to update when I opened it again.

I tried the uninstall of the 574 and used the 509 from MBtradings website and its auto updated twice. Then i deleted ALL MT4 information on my computer and just installed the 509 but again it ran the auto update. So far no word back from MB on this and all my EX4 files with out the MQL4 will not work. So no idea what to do now to use the EX4 indicators i have.

I was running on 509 for a few days no problems but was just auto-updated to build 600 yesterday. I have not run any other mt4 platforms so I'm assuming this update was rolled out by MBT. I am having the same problems with my indicators no longer working as I did with build 574. Strange thing is, build 600 does not have the new folder structure that 574 had (which is apparently causing many of the indicator problems). Build 574 had added a folder called MQL4 into the mt4 folder structure, but build 600 does not have it. Now I have no idea where to begin to try and fix my indis.

I had a similar problem i had to do a complete uinstall and re-install. I have yet to hear anything from MBTrading on any of this and i am guessing they stopped checking this forum. When i called and told them what happen they said to use the one on there site which is build 509. The major problem is the auto updating. Either way there phone suppose said they don't "really" support MT4 and pushed there platform on me again. They said they have MT4 because everyone wanted it but dont support it outside the setup and log in.

So in the end MQL4.com was a big help but i still cant use a lot of my indicators and im still looking for a solution. 574's coding changed so when you go to compile the code i get a ton of errors now. PLUS all i have is the EX4 file and i cant compile that so its just lost.

Would it be possible to include, in a coming update, a choice to opt-out of fractional pips, or at least to make them not visible? My eyesight's not as good as it was 20 years ago and it's causing me to make mistakes. I've increased the font, which helps, but I rather not see it them all. I don't care if my position gets rounded up or down a half pip, if that's what would be necessary.
