I have subscribed to this thread. I've traded options before, but never on forex, so I'm definitely looking forward to learning from The Fool!!

Mostly I trade options on the indices and ETF's, rarely on fx instruments. Just like anything else, open a demo account somewhere and dive in. Check out the CBOE website, they have papertrade utilities there that are free...good luck.

I'm not going anywhere, dude. I actually prefer that you focus on indices and ETF's rather than FX. I am a daytrader at a prop firm and that is exactly what I've been focusing on as of late. I like to trade the 3x leveraged etf's like UPRO, SSO, TQQQ, TNA, TZA, FAS, DUST, NUGT, UVXY, SVXY, etc. but I don't really trade any commodities other than gold. I just like to trade whatever's moving at the time.

My favorite trades are the ones that mirror the SPY because I believe that is the easiest to predict... kind of like futures if I'm not mistaken.

Anyway, I still look forward to learning from you.

I have not followed the financials enough to know too much. Why do you think JPM will fall on earnings?

What do you think about WFC? Looking at the Jul 12 $41 puts @ $0.11. WFC traded <$41 this time last week, closed at $42.69 today, down $0.26 on a fat green market day.

Heavyweights are next week - C, GS, BAC, etc

I have no idea if JPM will do well in earnings or not, all i am hoping to do is to take advantage of jpm retreating a little before announcement as it is hitting resistance

hmm, Q2 earnings expectations are mostly negative on the Street, so long scalps might pay better.

That's why I like WFC, I bet expectations are that WFC earnings tanked with the Tnote yield surge since WFC is more heavily vested in the mortgage industry. If WFC dips again as it did hard Tue morning I may look for cheap calls for an earnings play.

GS is showing strength and WFC is a well run financial institution and i wouldn't bet against it doing well again in the friday announcement. JPM puts are really cheap as IV isn't high as it usually is going into a earnings release, i normally only trade after release rather than before but one side of the options are cheap enough to take a position

I might try an XLF strangle, for Friday Jul 20 exp, $21 call @ $0.02 and $19 put @ $0.03. Ever played the earnings releases that way?

no, wrong, I meant the Jul 26 exp, $21 Call @ $0.07, $19 put @ $0.05

you're right on XLF, CG. it can be slow, $0.50 finish <> open is a big move.

$20.50 call @ $0.11, $19.50 put at $0.13, breaks even with a $0.30 move +/-, with all the earnings out over next 2weeks, either leg could earn well....
