What do you mean by strict BE? You break even as soon as possible (still 150 pips) or strict by a certain pip amount and after that no reentries in a trend?

now take look at the this chart, in there were 7 trades from April till now.
how many of the 7 never got to BE of 400
how many hit SL of 1000
how many were simple losers
tell me how many were winners

forget about the re-entries

do the maths and let me see how this would have better your account by now

I tell myself that I can not miss nice trade in trend. How do I know that this is finally the trend ?!

I don't joke with breaking even when the opportunity comes, to joke with it is underestimating the power of the 14 pairs
150+ on M15
250+ on H1
400+ on H4

Once BE hits, I switch TF of EA to lower TF and if the trend resumes again it will pick it up

I did the look back on H4 chart. It seems promising, but still a few periods of choppiness. Also entering can be difficult with sudden moves and price far away from HAS. Seems challenging but I guess with an automated verion and correct numbers for SL and BE it works.

if we know when trend starts and ends, Forex would have been gone for long

if its too far, then wait for it. => patience, look at the USDJPY H4 chart example

price would always come back to HAS and when it comes back to HAS fire the trade

THis post is not directed at you Peter - but in genral to the concept of looking back and a few other things.

How far back? and how closely did you look?

do the spread sheet and track each and every trade - entry, highest point, lowest point - then review multiple options for exits - - test the theories

you'll be suprised at the results and how it will help you see the real benefits of Baskets - Daily charts never fail to go into profit........


the other issue i see is form fitting to current market conditions - just how many indicators do you need.......to blow a great system.

Put the time in and the results will come - consider this an education, how many years to get a degree - why would this be any easier.

I saw a post a little while ago - Entries are the most import thing - not my view sorry....Exits are the most important thing, good or bad knowing how to close a trade and have the ability to follow through is the key to success - greed and fear are your biggest enemies.

so essencially we have 2 ways to trade
Auto - having looked back we find a set of situations and create an EA and leave it be - profit may be slower but is consitant - remember to monitor each trade and test the results against the original back test theories.
Manually - we have a system and trade by the rules - Greed and fear now play a massive part in your trading rules (just a few more pips, I know what the market is doing, it's going to come right soon etc)

To each there are pro's and con's, but you must find what suits you best and not what someone else has said you have to do, and you must stick to the plan, other wise it all goes sour.

here's a thought, add a moving average to all the timeframes - lets use 50 - now review the charts - what do you see - some above, some below, but here's the thing (example only) charts are long, 30min has just crossed down on the MA, now look to the 1h and follow through.....Price chases MA (could be that MA's are chasing price), so we drop below the 30min, then it aims for the 1h (it may bounce or pass through) it passes through, now look to the 4h and so on.

this is not a trading method, but a way of understanding why we range, why we trend and why we reverse. look at the weekly chart, the 50MA is just about the 50% fib of the last 12 months trading, Daily, 4h, 1h are all below the 50MA on there charts - so we sit and wait for either price to go to the weekly MA, or the MA to catch up to price - it's not a trading method, justa way to see the bigger picture.

I think that's enough from me for one night, study hard and you will win.

I agree with you MPP.

Personally, I'm very emotional and I tend to over analise even long term trades. According to psychologic research, the majority of people will close a trade for minimal profit, even with the hight potential for it to grow further. Also they tend to leave a trade running when they have minimal loss and a high chance of it losing big, because (as MPP said) the mentailty is that I'm sure it will turn right. Most people simply don't like to lose.

This is why I prefer automated trading, but even with H4 I noticed quite a few losses (HAS change color before SL hit) and even SL hits. You're right, I only looked back untill the beggining of may. I'm sure the winners overcome them, but concidering that you only get 5-8 trade over 6 months, psychologically it's hard to handle being in negative profit for a month or two.
