That's one reason why it's a good learning experience, all of forex trading is in that thread - winners, loosers, wannabes, fantasists, scammers, noobies the lot. Like I say you will learn a lot about trading in there but not how to trade. Most of the relevant aspects of trading are mentioned daily in there so it is a great launching board for discovering new things if you are new to the scene.

Thanks fo that Seneca,and sorry to appear a bit dense, right Ive got my 5ema over my atr5 on the same panel but still a bit unsure how to coralate the 2 for setting a stop loss

My number one issue in trading is patience. I moved over to the 4h TF's cause i go crazy on the 1h and lower. tearing my hair out and running circles around the block lol.. anyone else trade the 4h ?

Use the ema reading to get your stop. Right now the ema for EJ is 1.5251. 152.5 pips is the five day average. Twenty percent is 35 pips plus the spread, so my stop would be 35 to 38 pips. Size the position accordingly.

many thanks for the replies guys, I would PM a couple of people but i as a brand new member i don't believe i can.
seneca: everything you said makes perfect sense to me, the course i'm thinking of taking does include indicators yes, they are clearly marketing themselves to the inexperienced public who are in search of the holy grail which i accept doesn't exist, that said their is some value in what they teach and as it's not particularly long or expensive if i learn anything from it, it would arguably be worth doing, its the structured style of learning and the fact it's just another source of information to consider that appeals to me i'm not expecting to learn everything i need to know or anything like it, by the time i've studied everything i intend to before taking it i may well have decided it's not necessary. The books i've read so far are alexander elders "come into my trading room" john j murphys "technical analysis of financial markets" the annoted version of "remeniscences of a stock operator" and im actually halfway through new market wizards, these are the books that have come up most in my searches, they're all completely different and i believe i've gained very valuable information from all of them. Any other reccommendations? I will make sure i go through this thread from the beginning and study the EURUSD one stevexyg mentioned, with all the other sources i'm trying to learn from this will keep me busy for while, any other advice from anyone will be greatly welcomed otherwise i shall stop butting in on your thread and go off and do some homework for a few months

'Trading in the Zone' by Douglas is essential reading and will guide you through the psychological side of trading with discipline. it may take you 3 months to read a handful of trading books but it can take 3 years or more to come to terms with the mental challenges thrown at you in trading.
