You want to look at volatility, look at the ADX indicator to get a hint at when movement may occur, then you can place a grid to try to capitalize. Ofcourse if range continues the chop may kill your account.

To the doubters I was listening to a terrible trader for years who turned into a success after she came to the conclusion that the markets go up and down and its down to getting the right zones and not having a bias certainly for the shorter term. I can see the logic in it. You will never know your in a trend or counter trend move until the swing is over.

Yes, There is!
Futures hated Forex can do the non-directional trading with less margin problem.
That is the main reason why FIFO and No Hedging Rule (Nedging) were implemented, IMO.

Trade without bias, just follow where the market is going. Forget all the indicators, waves, patterns, etc. Trading on straight price action continues for me. I am a big advocate for the KISS method.

SPread trading arbitrage for example if you find to assets highly correlated and are range bound mostly allwel rangebound inst always necasry then you basically short the outperformer and long the underperformer when the there is a spread there many markets to do this is in this just short eplanation if you wanna know more google is your friend just pointing you in a direction let me give you a good market to do this is bonds us bonds for example 2 years 5 years 10 30 years now to make the strategy you need to do yourself this was 1 on aud and nzd but it blew up so he took it off when it started to get wacked you need stabile eniroment .. So not worked anymore alwell it might do now with low volatilty in this pairs and range bound so maybe you could look there first. not mine by the way from a friend the curve

non-directional trading with NO margin problem could be the sentence that better represents the essence of the Smalfi strategy
I feel good!

If you're able to consistently determine whether the market is likely to trend or trade sideways next day intraday then you've obviously found the Holy Grail. It's a challenge for sure.

This is something I've been experimenting with using various indicators and, some indicators work better than others in identifying the likelihood of next day sideways action for example. This is the ideal market condition for non-directional trading strategies as you mentioned.

I'll soon create a thread for experimenting with different indicators for identifying intraday directional bias.
