After getting into Forex for over 6 months, I see I can stop anytime I want since I have a main job and Forex only help me to earn about hundreds a month . It's not too much and also included risky. And I had stopped trading for 2 weeks so I'm not addicted.

The novelty wears off after a few years. But, I think, as long as you have money in your pocket, you'll always be throwing an eye over the charts. It's what the brokers rely on.

I did the 20 questions on that a site. Replacing gambling with trading.

"You Answered Yes to 5 questions"
"Most Compulsive gamblers will answer 'Yes' to at least 7 of these questions."

Guess I'm safe, haha.

That's good to hear. It's a scary reality.

I saw a broker recently advertising 100% bonus on deposit (up to $30,000). I've seen many of these types of promotions but this one particularly caught my eye. They are placing a bet that the punters are going to blow through the bonus and then their deposit in quick fashion. It reminds me of those late night gambling shows on TV where they match your deposit.

I like it.
And for me is a business.

I have my time to make trades.
And i have my time to make other things.
The balance is essential.

But I have to be available at any time if i want to be successful in business.

What a great thread to start!. I suspect this one will continue for a very long time. After 15 years of trading, the 1st 10 in equities, then futures and now a few yrs of Forex, I can say that it has become an addiction for me. To me, the best way to see if you are addicted tyo this is to see what you do with your trading if you lose or quit your job, or just don't have to work for some reason. AND NO, I CANT GET OUT.

You see, when I was working as a poker dealer in a casino in the evening till midnight, I forced myself to stick mostly with equities and just sim-trade forex because I knew with my nite time personality, Id wind up staying up till 5 or 6am every day, and then tell myself I dont want to miss the equities open at 9:30, and I d wind up getting 4 hrs sleep a day and lose my job in short order. Forex scared me to death because when trading equities I was always pissed off at 7 or 8pm when I had nothing to do that I had no action going. Nothing to watch. And sure enough my biggest fear became my greatest nightmare. I parted company with my boss 5 yrs ago, tried to open my own equities consulting firm, but had no real Internet, coding or web master knowledge and so I found myself eating thru my savings with nothing coming in. Then I said to myself, I don't have enough to trade equities without worry(To me thats 50k in the acct and 50k in long term stocks or funds) and Forex gives you a much cheaper "buy-in." So I opened an acct about 4 yrs ago and never looked back. It took me 3-1/2 yrs to become profitable, but it is a nightmare. Because what good is making 50% a year on a $2000 or even $5000 acct.YOU CAN NEVER TOUCH OR ENJOY THE MONEY. THE BROKERAGE FIRM HOLDS IT FOREVER! Sure, if I was 25 I could just let it multiply and compound. Id be a millionaire in about 8 yrs. But I am 54. I cannot survive 8 years without working. And to be very honest, I place my trades at around 7pm as the 2 systems I use have stops that wont require me to check again until next day at same time. Yet I cant walk away from the screen. I love watching the action, and to be honest I ALWAYS put on a small fun trade just to day trade, with an edge of course.

And lets be truthful guys and girls even if you make a living at this and can pay all your bills, you dont have trading in your heart, in your bones, if you can just set your stops and take profit numbers and walk away all day. Thats a businessman, thats not a trader.

My problem is I am a winner every month. But I never can pay my yearly expenses on such a small account. And still I tell myself every night at around midnight just when the market starts to yawn a little bit................"go to sleep now. youll waste the whole night if you dont." And 3 out of 5 nights I am up all night and sleep till 3pm. WILL I EVER BE ABLE TO WORK A REGULAR NORMAL JOB AGAIN.LIVING THIS LIFE? NO! BUt yet as George Patton said on the battlefield after a hard fought winning battle as he surveyed the land and saw tso many thousands of his men dead and piled up for miles all around him...................."God help me, I love it so."

Anyone who has not seen the movie Patton with George C Scott is watching a guy who would have been a traders trader. But its ok, Im thankful he helped us win ww2. In fact some say we might not have without him!

To answer the question more directly, I think the true answer is. I cant, some can. Most are stuck in it until it becomes hell, and 1% get what we all want....the money, the enjoyment, AND they get to walk away....if they are smart enough not to live sucvh a narrow life where all you do is talk to your screen or other narrow minded people like yourself, dont travel, dont help out the less fortunate, dont drive to new places just becayse....as you are afraid to miss the next trade.

I find for me.......trading affects the nervous system. Things you could normally do like wash your car and vacuum the carpet wind up[ becoming "too time consuming." You lose your patience on long lines at the bank. Maybe even with people who really love you that should come first! Trading excellence does not come without a very high price.

Heres a question I'd like to ask the board.......HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE MADE EVEN ONE INTERESTING AND HIGH QUALITY FRIEND SINCE YOU DEVOTED YOURSELF TO TRADING?(Internet friends dont count.) This social bankrupcy is another great price you may have to pay if you already dont have a big resource of friends NOW!

btw......Im starting another thread myself called "The next 2 weeks." Its for predicting 5-10 days of trading on any pair you want and you have 1 paragraph to tell us why. Or it could be changes in yourself or trading plan you want to implement in the next 2 weeks. Its going to be more of a fun thread, but I am positive some gold nuggets will come rolling out ...especially by the older traders. Come on and join!

"Trading is a profession not an addiction" is your tagline.

I say its both....or you are just a businessman sucking dollars out of the stream. Its almost a waste. Find me 5 traders that made enough to travel around the world......and then stopped trading and really did it! We always want more. Thats an addiction!

Lets be honest guys, if you had $10m dollars given to you right now, and the terms were you could either trade the money, and never take a vacation or go anywhere special or buy a new house, car or luxuries UNTIL YOU DOUBLED THAT MONEY.... or- you could take the 10 million and do whatever you want with it, but you could never trade with that money or you die, how many of you would pick trading over travelling around the world for life?(or whatever turns you on.)

To the contrary, I would actually be inclined to believe that a very significant percentage of the trading population is addicted to gambling.

A shameless plug for all of you who feel that you can't stop trading....maybe you should take a look at this thread I started the other day. Someone on the first page here posted the direct link but I'm curious as to how other members in the community score.

Are you a compulsive gambler?

addiction to to forex?? getting out of it is very easy. i did it two hundred times...

just a joke...

if you feel you dont have control over your life, if you feel that you are totaly mannaged by the charts and trading, if you lose and blow accounts and continue to add more and more money to your account this is a behavioral addiction.

and we have to treat it as an addiction.
trading is not an addiction. it's a profession.
