This is another great tool, P4L period converter which allows you to make a 10 minute chart, 20 minute chart, etc. It's reliable compared to the built in script on mt4 and automatically starts up again when you restart your terminal.. http://www.forexfactory.com/showthread.php?t=206301

having read through what i'm writing I'm having difficulty explaining myself, so apologies if this sounds confusing. Give me a whiteboard or flipchart and I can get my message accross, but thats tricky on a forum.

This isn't a criticism, everyone is entitled to their own style and methods. I've never used ATR and I'm generally suspicious of almost all 'averages'. Yes they are handy on occassions like forecasting bad debt ratios in order to build a bad debt reserve over the course of a financial year. However when it comes to trading I don't put much faith in them as they can be skewed very easily by just a couple of breakouts, for example if the maximum breakout for particular settings was say 50 pips and then you get a day of huge volatility and no cz's then all of a sudden you might have say a massive 600 pip move which affects your average, so over 30 trades it will affect the average moving it from 50 pips to 70, all of a sudden your in a situation where although your using an average your hardly ever going to hit it again in the short term (though another 11x 1 pip consecutive breakouts would adjust it to the previous level). In addition being an average there is going to be a significant number of times when it doesn't reach the average, thats it's nature, it's an average, it tells you very little and you should never think of it as a 50% chance of hitting it.

What would be much more useful for an ATR type indicator would be percentiles, or standard deviations. The reason this is more relevant when it comes to trading you can set a target for your breakout based on ideas like 'I want my first breakout to achieve 80% wins', so you need to know the number of pips which are hit 80% of the time. This becomes even more relevant if your basket trading say three levels setting them at the points which are hit say 80%, 50% and 25% of the time. If you icould dentify these levels (and they will change for every new cz and every one that falls off the front end) you can then place them on a chart and look atr the RR for each one. For example the 25% hit level needs to be an RR of 1:4 or greater if your leaving your SL static (i.e not moving to breakeven, then moving to TP1 when TP2 is hit etc.). I can't imagine that this is programable without massive resources, those of a huge banks IT dept for example, and a really slick cpu chilled to absolute zero.

So basically, what I'm saying is that using ATR in my opinion isn't going to give you much, if any, edge in setting TP's.

Some interesting ideas there. Actually, what I'm using the ADR for is to quickly find ideal CZ range size. Quite simply the idea we're trading is that if price stays locked in say a 1/4 of it's ADR for a few hours or more, there's going to be a breakout.

Nice one! I was too nervous to trade that due to the R:R and crazy whipsaws that can happen around news events. Unfortunately took a hit on the way down. Oh well. Next.

I'm seeing the benefits of the new version now. Turning off shadow grid got rid of the red boxes which were throwing me off. I like how the large artifact goes really wide and the spread makes the calculations way better. And the Lot Multiplier is awesome as I'm not comfortable doubling 3 or 4 times. Thank you so much for all your hard work. And sharing it with us free of charge. What an amazing tool!!
