"China's working-age population shrank in 2012, marking the beginning of a trend that will accelerate over the next two decades and have profound implications for the world's second-largest economy.
By the end of December China's population aged between 15 and 59 was 937.27 m, a decrease of 3.45m from 2011, according to figures released by China's National Bureau of Statistics on Friday. "In 2012 for the first time we saw a drop in the population of people of working age ... We should pay great attention to this fact," said Ma Jiantang, head of the National Bureau of Statistics." -CNBC-

This has a long term impact on the Aussie. The reason China still enjoys the high growth rate because it is still a developing economy despite its status of second largest economy in the world.

When China is getting closer to a developed economy, the double digits growth will not be sustainable. Now coupled with such a drop of work force in the coming years, the GDP may drop below 5% sooner or later.

When this gradually becomes the reality, the Aussie will begin its long journey to the 0.6 or 0.5 levels and stays there after the US becomes the largest oil producer. IMO

Japan was a rising sun during 1980s. I remember there were lots of admiration from the Western developed economies. Japanese businesses flooded the US and purchased real estate all over the country. But, 2 decades later, its economy is faltering. They are selling their holdings in the US.

I do see China is heading to this road after Japan. It could be worse than what Japan has gone through. The main reason is China's ruling party has had tight control of its economy development. I'd say it's more like an inflated economy. When the rotten political system is no longer able to turn the tide of the work force drop, a massive withdraw of their businesses and capitals from the US is foreseeable in the near future.

While a lot of talking heads are talking up China's Yuan, I believe it is over killing. A currency issued by a totalitarianism regime with such opaque system cannot be a world currency IMO. Most data released by China are not as reliable as Western countries'. Sometimes I even think the data are fabricated.

Trading is an art of exploring the unknown future. Indicators can only tell you what happened in the past, but not what is going to happen in the future.

From 2006 to 2008, I tried all the indicators and none of them works ALL the time. It is better to find highs and lows on the charts and set orders in advance.

I know nothing about ewp have never tried it. It is an art, instead of science so it must be very tough to master it.

China could get messy. What happens when you have centralized planning? Misallocation of capital and eventual destruction.

I think they clearly have a real estate and banking bubble and potential yuan bubble. Sooner or later, it will collapse.

Your analogy to Japan is a good one.

When will we ever learn? Good news is never, as that is why things like EWP work.

I don't trade fundamentals even though I was formally trained in them, but I do like to look at the world and see if it "jives" with the charts. E.G. I see this on the chart, what would or could be the fundamental catalyst?

No indicator works all the time. If it did, I would just set my computer, leave for a couple of days, then go spend my Billions.

You have hit it on the head, DB..there are good Grails and bad Grails, and it depends which one we tend to grab at first. Will it have positive energy or negative energy within it.......?
