Hello everyone

Long time no see. Just want to wish a successful SSBO year everyone and share some personal experience with SSBO.
It will be a full year in Feb since I have discovered this thread and oh boy what a year it was. I have tried - literally hundreds of combinations of SSBO indi. At one point I've had 134 templates - all profitable. From 5min on EU with RR=3:1 to H4 CAD/CHF with win ratio over 75%. I can tell you that the amount of possibilities are overwhelming. REALLY - ITS TOO MUCH. I have never thought that I will have such kind of problem. I have decided to stick to one pair and one TF - I chose 15min EU.
Since May 2012 till December 2012 I have tripled my account. The max drawdown was 15%.
YOU WILL MAKE MONEY USING SSBO - simple as that.

So once again Thank you ForexHard. All the best for you and all other guys here. I don't wish you luck because you don't need it - you have found this thread.

Now, I didn't want to be the first to ask, but as it seems no one else is stepping up, would you be willing to share you magic numbers for the EUR-USD settings?

Do you take every trade, within reason of course, or strictly during certain sessions eg London or New York?

Do you filter by any trend means, eg only long if you have indication of larger time frame up trend?

Focus on 1 trade only and GBPUSD works nicely.

Still catching the setups at times too late due to high workload.

Plan for the next few days:

Focus on GBPUSD only and try to trade all setups in time or with slightly better entry, only if i am late catching the proper entry otherwise pass.

I think posting my settings would be pointless for few reasons.
First: brokers feed - you could get completely different result with the exact same settings.
Second: confidence building - below are two charts covering 15min EU from OCT 25th till the end of November. (I have marked wins with green v and losses with red x)
On the first one you could see that for two weeks I had only 3 winners out of 15 trades. It wasn't pleasant and it tested me really hard. But on the next chart you can see quite opposite picture.
So if I gave you my settings around 25 of Oct and you would trade it - how confident would you be after those 2 weeks?

So Instead of posting any settings (which are nothing special anyway) I want to share my method of getting them.

I always start with box length and range = 30. Buffer pips, min bars closed outside BO = 0.
I only trade once per box.
TP and SL =30.

Then the work begins. I start tweaking box length first. I go up one digit and check the results. When I reach 45, I pick the one with best results and note it. Then I go down from 30 to 15 and do the same. So now I have 2 possible choices of box length, one higher than 30 and other lower than 30. I pick one of them as my first constant of my template.

Then I do exactly the same for box range. Up 15 - note the best. Down 15 note the best. Pick one as another constant of your template.

Then buffer pips and min bars closed outside BO you tweak them till you get best results.

Then you start playing with TP and SL. And that's where fun begins.

You can chose whatever RR ratio you want. If you choose RR=1:1 you could get 60-65% win ratio. But if you choose RR=3:1 the max win ration you will get could be 30%. It all depends what you want, how often you want to trade, how much you want to risk per trade etc.

And that's all. I hope it makes any sense.

Something to ponder.

What are you going to do if the EA is never released? Do you think the ea is going to have all the right settings as a default just for you? You already have all the tools you need to play around with which you would have to do anyway for the ea to work for you. Without drawing the box's how are you going to know what the problem is if the ea doesn't meet your expectations? Without doing the little box' and trading live how do you know what your expectations are going to be? Play around with box's first, trade live with real money, read the thread, then read it again, then do what FH asks of you to be successful whith his mentoring, then come back to this post and tell us if the ea is necessary to be successful with SSBO.

Forgive me if i did not make myself clear. The EA would able us to test several settings. I read all the topic and did my homework. But the EA would alow me to optimize my risk reward.
Ex:
What is the best settings to apply? A 1/1 risk reward or a 1/3. Should we consider what stop loss? half of the box? the other side?

If you have an EA that alow me to introduce values to :

Stop loss.
Take profit.
box value.
buffer value.
timeframe.
number of bars.

Doing this it will able all us to test it and improve our settings according with our trading style. As a user just said we can have a 60/65 winning rate with +300 pips or a 30% winning rate havving the same results. It is great to automatic have our trades in place letting our emotions apart. But this was not my poist for now. It was for testing the best settings. Just it.

Hi,

Just a quick note about the EA issue... I think that "struggling" to find the best settings and to look at various charts, trading actively, posting and reading as well as keeping the trading diary etc is what seems to be the evolution path to becoming a profitable trader. This is far more important than the EA even if it has the best settings on it for the time being. Once you learn how to spot CZs manually and how to adjust the settings on the indicator you can adapt to different market conditions and different instruments that you trade. This way one can derive the correct SSBO ingredients to tackle any instrument or market. I imagine it to be a sort of rock , paper scissors game where you cannot afford to do the same thing all the time and expect to be successful. If you get the EA and start using it or start using it for backtests you will never complete this process... Just my opinion... Have a great day!
Nice post, Forex_Fox. The EA will be pretty useless to anyone that hasn't followed the suggested Naked Trading self-training guidelines. It's like tossing your car keys to your 8-year-old kid. He knows what they are and where they go, but he still can't do anything about it.

I'd change that to 4 year old lol. I am pretty sure my 8 year old would do some pretty good damage if I handed her my car keys

At the time of asking, I thought I didn't have the necessary requirements to take part in testing the EA. There are others far more experienced than me so I thought it best to keep my hand lowered.

I am looking forward to the EA's release even though for the foreseeable future I am trading live on a non mt4 account and receive signals with my demo account.....a combination which netted me a whopping 415 pips from the 3/12/12 - 04/01/13................and that was with an 11 day break, so not even a full month!

Trading on a non MT4 account means that I can't implement the EA's let profits run strategy because I can't open multiple lots? I will be absolutely honest with you all here, I still can't get my head around how that works as I trade using pounds per pip.

Even so, purely from an interest point of view, I'd love to see how many pips I'm potentially missing out on.

If you need an extra pair of hands to help test etc ...then of course I'm always available chap. If not, then keep up the fantastic work as always mate.
Same as you I trade pounds per pip using IG - so lots and leverage don't come into it. Alpari UK now offer spread betting with MT4. Maybe worth a look as ea will run on that.
