Hi Joel!
I applied it, it's damn good, no time, no effort, just place the orders and wait for the next day. I wonder why men going look for so complicated system, just make trading more mysterious....
I'm now using other system that i myself made, founded on this strategy becau 7am-9am is not comfort for me to trade . It's breakout strategy but apply for daily timeframe and for any pair, not only with EU.i go live, 15% profit per week, no stress, no spending time, just need get up early !
Thank for share this system
Ftmo2 All Time Return: 45.7%

Joel : Yup, seem like this thread is dead, but a lot of discussion in the middle of posts. It is hard to get any new info because gonna read all the posts, which is too many pages. So do you have the EA?

andrei-irk: Wow! 15% profit per week is not bad. Keep it up! Would like to hear your best result next times. See if this is consistent.

Actually after i did some analysis about daily price (Understand the high and low, patterns and volatility), i noticed that this breakout system is great, because the price keeps repeating the same manner everyday if this is volatile. This is why my analysis report promise me to look for this thread. Haha.... and both of you and others are doing the great result. What i could say this is true with this simple strategy.

You should look at the london break out v2 ea. I is pretty nice and you have the code for it. Just set it to 7-9 and you could at least test the basic ideas of this strategy.

Well I know the london break out code works great in backtester and has some interesting MM features.

Like anything there are always profitable settings and time periods.

Here is my analysis use my box breakout code for the 7-9 EST box.

Have used this strategy 2 years ago for few months and then half way drop out due to:
1. Do not have confidence on the strategy, as the are no results to prove that it is profitable over at least 5 to 10 years.
2. Do not have discipline to stick with it consistently, as sometime I'll be lazy to open my laptop, waiting for few minutes for window to load, just to monitor the trade. (this is bad, i know )

This thread has been 4 years since the first post, wonder does any fellow traders here still diligently stick with this strategy and have a track of trading records or backtested results to share with us.

Thanks in advance!

Hi all,

A simple question because i don't have any good answer : if a strategy is based on price action, like this one, does it have to show good results in the strategy tester of MT4 ?

I mean behind that i don't believe ANY strategy can show very good result for a long time.

Maybe for the last days or even monthes, but is it really relevant to show good results 1 year before for example (think what has happened since one year) ?

Any pro or cons ?

I trade a very similar system and have done for 6 or 7 years now but on open of Frankfurt at 7 am through open of London at 8 am UK time. You will nearly always see a breakout after consolidation during Asian session. Makes me money every week. I trade a few systems/strategies all break outs and they work if you let them.

Forget the back testing look ahead.

I like these kinds of strategies. I looked on the EURUSD chart this morning and saw that it was a winner...maybe I will take a further look at this particular strategy.

Hi there,
I trade a very similar strategy using the 15min chart, GBPUSD only:
1. look for tight asian range between 0.00 and 6.00 GMT, max. 40pip
2. ignore any breakouts before London open at 8.00 GMT, especially fake breakouts on Frankfurt open
3. enter on breakout at London open after close of strong 9.00 or 9.15 candle (longer than candles in range)
4. SL is at other side of asian range
5. target is a limit order at daily ATR, calculated from top/bottom of asian range

win rate after 70 trades since november 2012 is 61,5%/ RR 1.2

It seems as if this thread has really died off. It used to be quite active when I was trading this way... In my experience, for what it is worth, this was and is not a set and forget type of system. I never really traded it that way, but still used the basic premise. I only demoed it, and did well with the way I had my charts set up, but to be successful, I really had to just trade one pair to learn how it behaved. I live in Calif, so I traded slightly different times, and was always out of the market by 9:30 or 10 (before the fairly consistent reversal]. If the trade and the indicators I used didn't look like it would be a win, I'd pass and wait for the next day. If I got a little antsy about my trade, I'd get out, figuring a pip saved is a pip earned. Some days I'd get out with 2-3 pips, and others around 35 or so. I always aimed for 20 plus the spread, and probably averaged 50-125 pips per week. Give it a try if you think you might like it, have patience, practice with one pair, and learn how to predict the price action with that pair. While I was demo, I could grow my account consistently around 10% per month, but that was with risking more than 3% of my account. I no longer trade this system because I have money management issues, and until I can control myself, I will not go back to it. Besides, I would start my trades before I left for work, and then check them once I got to work...but now this is blocked, so as of now... there is no way I can get back into it. Good Luck... give it a try, it worked for me with some modifications, I just could't control myself and ultimately would risk too much and get wiped out in a matter of hours. I do think if you are right 50% of the time and have good MM, you can make a profit though.

Thanks for your response,

I am currently looking into this system and simply love it, so far so good - GBP/USD 160 pips this week, basically using a mixture of this and the "virus" system (now called big players & central banks or something like that (credits to Tony112, check it out if you love MMA Rainbow , it is simular concept).

What I do is trade only if the box is ?? pips big (still have yet to figure out the perfect number, but 55 seems to work pretty well. If the box is 55 pips apart, do not trade), using a 3-4 pip cushion (setting orders 3-4 pips from the box - still researching, but 4 pips usually works just well) and using the Tony112's 'way' of setting stoploss - setting it to low amount of pips (I use something like 5+spread) and moving the SL into break-even as soon as possible to get a 'free trade'. (Again, Kudos to Tony112 from me, somebody else might have used it / mentioned it earlier, but he was the first one I have found out about it from.)

My explanation for this is simple - if the market is going YOUR WAY (or breaking out your way) then the SL does not matter that much - (I always set SL though, you never know what can happen and it is better to be safe than sorry) Because the momentum is just huge when the market is breaking out and many times I saw my orders get triggered and move into 2-3 pips profit approx. 3 seconds.

However, if your limit order got triggered and the market was just testing support / resistance, then what is the point of having 20-30 pip SL as opposite to 5-7 pip SL? If the market has changed direction and is going against you, you are going to lose anyway and I think it is much better to lose 7 pips at max than 20-30 pips every failed trade.

Also, I am monitoring the trade, as I don't really use target profit - I have a mental TP of 10-30 pips (10 pips at first, however this system is capable of 20-30 pips almost constantly). If I see the market going against me I instantly close the trade while I am still in profit. Reason for this is simple - some days you can get only like 7-10 pips per breakout (though it is just enough to make your account grow nicely and consistently) and other days you can run a 40+ pip homerun. And to stress it again - all this while using Risk:Reward of 1:1,4 in the case of 10 TP or something like 1:3 in the case of 30 TP. Also, don't over-leverage your account - I am using Oanda and the 1:10 is just fine, infact I would be glad if they had something like 1:5.

Using this MM I hope to go live in the upcoming 6 months (after I am done with my studies), meanwhile I am going to forward and back-test it and of course try to find the best parameters for the breakouts. (in regards of SL, TP I should be looking for and the box size)

Hi Guys
Just read the entire thread and I see most of you have dissappeared
However I will make my comments :

The Big Dog System is a GBPUSD system for the NY Open , it is not designed for other pairs or timeframes..( although may work )

What is the problem with people not understanding the timing of the trade box? its 7AM to 9AM NY time . are you really saying that you dont know what time the NY markets open on your charts ? If you dont go and learn this before trading .
You simply adjust the indicator so that it appears on the correct 3 hours.

Dont trust any EA to trade with , they cannot replace a traders eyes and feel for the market .

This system does work as long as you follow the rules.

(lots of people here getting stopped out when box was too big , shows you havent even read page 1 of the thread)

You especially need to read dznmrd and ctguys's posts. Thank you to them for this system !

Have you been successfully in long time? Would you mind to share your result? Please understand me because evidence is the only true.

For you info, I have built the EA and done some backtest. Unfortunately, it perform better in some back years, and did worst in other year.

Thanks.
