I just saw that you continued to provide the news indicator for free... what a live saver!

I ran into a problem though:
When running ffcal, I can't get the newest news as csv. It stops with the last news being
"2012-07-06","10:00","CAD","Ivey PMI","H","","55.1","60.5","","141","3","1","40172"
both in the table being shown after download, and the respective csv's.

I see ffcal downloading all the neccessary data through wget though (I clicked on numbers of weeks autoset, so it tries to download 14 weeks of data). All other settings are left to default, and I see nowhere that the maximum date has been restricted to 2012-07-06 in the settings.
Metatrader is on the root dir, and I've given ffcal and wget admin rights. (though that should not matter since ffcal can create files.)

Any idea whats wrong?

@Plot News users:

The problem is that the FF programmers frequently change the format of their news calendar's HTML code, and the Plot News downloader can't possibly anticipate every conceivable change. Every time I rewrite the downloader to accommodate a new format, I try to improve it's 'intelligence', but the bottom line is that it must always be finite, while the number of possible formats is potentially infinite.

If past news outcomes are not important to you, here are 3 good alternative (and free) MT4 indicators to keep you informed of upcoming news: here here and here. (They don't process the HTML, and hence avoid the format problem. Instead, they process a XML file produced by FF, that contains only upcoming news for the current week).

I will post an updated version of the Plot News indy when I get some spare time.

This thread is about VO-Pro, and I'd like to keep it on topic, if possible. If you have issues with the Plot News indy, please PM me.

Plot News v3.21, which has been modified to read the latest FF calendar HTML format, can now be downloaded from post #1. See 'Latest news' section at the top of post #1 for more info.

I downloaded your v3.21 zip file, read all the instructions and followed them. Running Win7 with FXCM Demo MT4.

Ran your setup.exe file which installed- there was a pop up template which I ignored, given that your instructions said it was meant for advanced users (in any case it was not properly sized enough for me- the bottom part was hidden.)

Put in all the parameter updates needed (3 for bottom right window, time offsets, changed display font from 12 to 8), and ran Download News twice (hit enter without touching Load or Save options) with 2 min apart just to make sure the download works.

What I got- Recent News v310 pops up a new window (i.e. doesn't open in the chart window in the bottom right as it should) and there is no news display or text in that new window, nor any icon marker in the chart. This is true of all time frames, except for D1 where I still get a blank Recent News v310 window, but an overlapping icon marker set on the price chart (showing the number 6 on top) around 29 June 2012. The clock is correct (GMT for broker, I am on EST as is forexfactory set for EST.) Currently showing 3 Oct 5:01 GMT and counting (correctly.)

By the way, I am running in10tion News Reader v9.99p lite in the chart window, with the News display and download turned off (in10tion since July 19-2012 is working on getting News working again from FF after their format change. His version is from July 8-2012.) Also turned off are Clock, World and Local time display. The Bottom Right is thus available.

1. I've decided to remove the news indicator from the public domain. I no longer have the time or motivation to continue supporting the product. The Q&A overhead has become too time-consuming, especially for a free product. I apologize, but I must devote time to projects that have to most potential to provide me with the income needed to pay my bills.

2. Both VO-Pro sales numbers, and the rating for this thread, continue to plummet. I can only conclude that the more features that are added to VO-Pro, the more confusing people have found it, and hence the less popular it has become. I will fix the bug described here, but beyond that I must re-consider the viability and future of VO-Pro, as to whether it is worth the time and effort to enhance the product any further. The planned enhancements will only serve to make the product even more complex, and will increase the support/Q&A requirement, as non-programmers will likely struggle to understand how to use the enhancements effectively. And once again, my personal financial situation must be the overriding priority. I will make a final decision before the end of this week.

Sorry to hear that, David. I'm really glad I found VO-Pro, and I use it all the time. I spruik it a fair amount too.

Did you have any success talking with brokers? I think that was a strategy of yours some time ago.

You are one of a kind programmer and trader, but you need some serious marketing. Much rubbish is sold with 1999$ and not even close to your VO-Pro, honestly.
I'm not saying increase price but focus more on marketing now.
VO-Pro can stand a couple of month with no upgrades at all, and every body would still be very very happy.
You may consider two versions for VO-Pro, Basic and Pro for the complex guys

I agree with idempotent and wadib whole heartedly. VO-Pro is by far one of the best products in the Forex world. Unlike much of the junk currently out there, VO-Pro delivers. Anyone who has tried VO-Pro knows exactly what I’m talking about. I use it for every trade and have done so for months


Wadib makes a good point. Marketing! Maybe an affiliate program? I’m not very savvy when it comes to marketing but this product is just too good to not be an overwhelming success. I also like his suggestion about 2 versions; Basic and Pro.

I'll release v3.06 soon. Not sure what I'll do after that. I'm not despondent; I just don't want to waste time and effort adding more features if the existing product is already too complex.

Just to correct a misconception: the price of VO-Pro is (US)$199. It is NOT $1999.

I want to throw my support in there too. I'd sure like to see you succeed with VO PRO David...like Pablo I purchased it a while ago and since then use it for every trade that I make. Even with a fairly simple system like mine, I find it extremely useful and worth every penny. I honestly don't really grasp Trade Minder fully...but that doesn't get in the way of using the program. The core software is still incredibly easy to use and the TM templates included with the package (and a couple posted here) do everything I could ever need. I could see adding complexity being a problem for users if it interfered with using the software...but for me at least, it doesn't.

Have you considered making a small website for VO Pro? That might get it out there for a wider audience, and once it was up and running, wouldn't require much of your time to maintain. The affiliate program mentioned earlier is another good idea that could be combined with a website.

You really have a great product, I'd say maybe slow down on adding new features and focus on some marketing for a little while. My two cents...

As others have already said, this is a tremendously useful piece of software. I will incorporate it into my own training course, and I am sure once it gets better known, it will become very successful, so I cannot agree with your conclusion "the more features that are added to VO-Pro, the more confusing people have found it" - it is IMHO just too early to draw that conclusion.

That said, we both know that very many people trading forex have totally unrealistic support expectations.

You already supply a detailed manual with the software, and if extra support is needed by a customer, then they should pay for it, exactly as with any other professional software product.

A PayPal based support ticket option may do the trick without bringing in lots of administrative overheads.

I just opened a new account and it is denominated in CAD whereas my other two are denominated is USD.

IS there anything that I need to be careful about with respect to risk calculations as % of balance, equity etc.

I went to check myself by opening up positions on AU on both accounts but as the USDCAD rate is 0.9998 (effectively 1.0) there would be no difference in the calculation right now. However, later when the rate is different will it still calculate correctly.

VO-Pro works with whatever currency your account is denominated in. In other words, if your account is denominated in CAD, then all of the sizing and RR calculations (the text above the lines) will be in Canadian dollars, any any P/L values should correlate directly with those in MT4's terminal.

If you have any problems.......... There's an indy called Signal.ex4 that gets installed automatically with VO-Pro. You can use it to find out what the broker's "tickvalue" is for a given instrument (currency pair, metal, commodity, index, etc). See the attached screenshot. MT4's "tickvalue" is the dollar value per pip, in the currency your account is denominated in, if you're trading a full standard lot. For example, if your account is denominated in CAD, and you're trading any XXXCAD pair, then the tickvalue should be 10, because if you were to trade 1 full lot, each pip moved should affect your account balance by CAD$10.00

VO-Pro simply uses the tickvalue provided by the br0ker, for any given instrument. Hence assuming that the br0ker has set up the tickvalues correctly, VO-Pro's calculation should be correct, also.

I second that... Been following the thread for a long time and it has definitely changed the way I trade. I can't imagine trying to trade without it and David is a really nice guy to be updating his software based on requests. Can't say the same for any other product since most developers just don't care. I hope he continues with the project.
Targeting the limited MT4 windows clients is unlikely to be profitable. It is not a common apps such as Whatsapp that even a 10years old know how to use. I suggest you do not waste time on this VO-Pro anymore. The sale will never pick up. Develop an Android/Windows 8 Tablet/Iphone version, where the potential is on mobile platform. People are replacing their PC/Laptops with tablets and smart phone.

VO-Pro is a tool for serious traders, and I don't see serious traders deliberately migrating to tablets. The mouse, keyboard and big screen are just too convenient.
For serious traders....this is the problem isn't it? People want it free and easy. Samsung sold more than 50mil android phones last quarter. u check how many PC Hp sold?
