Great Indi Hanover!

I was wondering if there was a way for your indi to not only plot the last 5 day High and Lows but to also Label the Day and the Prices that the lines are at. For instance a line could say the Price its at along with "Monday High." So the Line might read Monday High 1.2075.

Would be awesome if it could =)

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. This is designed to be a general purpose indy, whereas what you're asking for is somewhat specific. There are already many indys that plot lines at daily highs/lows; they shouldn't be hard to find, using a forum search.

Hi David,

I use this indicator every day. Could not survive without it.

Any chance of adding the current month open price?

The only indicator I can find to do this is http://www.forexfactory.com/showthread.php?t=88977 and it would be perfect, but there is a bug in that it shows the previous months opening price, not the current month. As it is compiled code, I am able to correct the bug.

Or maybe you know of another indicator to show the month open?

Please see posts #117 thru #122. Does this work (by setting DaysOfMonth = 1)? I assume that you're asking for a vertical line to be plotted, as opposed to displaying the actual price value.

Are you after some kind of Turtle Trading Indicator?

might be what you are after, doesn't plot the prices, might help someone down the track

Wow! this is awesome! It wasn't exactly what I was thinking but still damn good. Originally, I meant placing the High price with the High line and Low Price with the Low line. Again, this is freakin awesome.

Hi David, sorry for the late reply. Not quite.

The first trading day of the month could be the first, second or third calenadar day of the month depending on how it falls relative to the weekend.

I want to plot a horizontal line from the current month opening price to the right hand side of the chart.

I understand you are pressed for time. I asked as I could not find an indi to do this and I use daily line boxes on every template I use.

I can add the level by hand, but I often flick between templates, so adding by hand is a real pain.

Dazz,

The indy loops on a "day" rather than a "month" basis, and is therefore not ideally suited to perform what you're asking. It would be simpler and tidier to write another indy; especially as this one already has a zillion options and the code becomes more voluminous to read, every time I have to down tools and work on it.

Try the attached. It should plot horizontal lines from the monthly opens to the RHE of the chart. Parameters should be self-explanatory. If you want the text displayed also, press F8 and check object descriptions on. If you want to use the .mq4 source, see my note in post #131.

I really MUST get back to some commercial work now. It's alright for you pro traders with your 7-figure incomes, but I gotta pay my bills somehow.

After some further testing, it is not showing on anything lower than H1. Not sure why. I have tried playing with the RefreshPeriod to no avail. I looked at the code, but it is above my level of comprehension.

If you get a chance to take a look, any chance of only showing the last months opening price, as apposed to using lookback bars?

I can't reproduce your problem. The screenshot below is EU,M15, and it shows the monthly open for every month back to Feb 2012, which is as far as my br0ker's (Pepperstone) M15 data goes back to. Obviously if the data is not there, it can't be shown; and also, if the monthly opens are at prices outside the range of the main chart window, the lines won't be visible (which is why I displayed all objects (press Ctrl-B) to check which lines are there or not).

If you set LookbackBars to a large number like 999999, then the indy will search for monthly opens all the way back to the beginning of the chart.

I've attached a new version. I changed a couple of minor things, and set the LookbackBars default to 999999. I can't see anything obviously amiss in the code that would cause the problem you're describing.

This Indicator is amazing.
I would like to ask if it is possible to customize the line-parameter as "dashed" ,"pointed" or as "solid" lines .
Because it is very difficlut to identify the form of the Candle that coincidates with the line.The candle is somehow hidden and not really good visible in any way.

Hi David.

I really appreciate your time. Amazing stuff.

I am not sure what you changed, but the indictor now works perfectly on all time frames (on my charts).

Would it be possible to add an option to only show the currrent months open (regardless of the time frame the chart is set to)? Or the number of months back? (less important).

This would be more useful than lookbackbars as it will display the same lines on the chart when you changes between timeframes (e.g. weekly, daily, 4hr and 1hr).

For example, on 1 hour, I need to set lookbackbars to about 600 lookback bars (chart 1). Looks good. But when I change to daily (chart 2), it's to much. I'd like to see the current month opening only, or specify the last number of months to show (less important).

If you do not have time, that's ok.

Hi Zack,

You can adjust this yourself. Try 0, 1, 2, etc and you should get what you want.
