Took a short yesterday on usd /sgd 4hr signal and 1 hr entry at 1.2461

Why 4 hour/1 hour? They are too close together.

The 4 hrly had a smooth run up and bounced off the 100 ema with a stochastic cross, the 1 hrly did the same, retraced a little and bounced down again. It seemed like it was close enough to take the trade.
Perhaps a better entry was on the 15 minute chart about 11 hours later when it bounced down off the 100 ema
Of all the pairs that began changing direction between last night and this morning, I chose the audchf because the others either looked to have less room to run or were usd pairs that might stall leading into this morning's monthly jobs number/reverse upon release of the jobs number. So, wouldn't you know it, they all moved in the expected direction, but ONLY the audchf (the one I chose) has reversed all the way - and in a hurry.

I can't believe my luck...

Now I am stuck waiting for pullbacks on these other pairs so I can get in and join the ride that others will have already been on for a while...

Oh well, c'est la vie, huh?

I had read and follow your thread. Im confuse with some points. Looking at the Daily, do you look at the SMA slope or do you look at the PA been below or above the SMA to define the direction?

Sometimes the SMA can be slanting and pointing up but PA had close below the SMA for several bars and heading down. If this is the case, SMA will be the line in the sand that divides long trends vs short trends? How do you handle trades when the slope of SMA is completly flat/horizontal?

Because of my work schedule Im only able to trade H4, could I apply the same principles of D1 and only stick to H4 to determine direction and without zoom in to H1 or M30? Would the stop loss be the same, 20 pips above/below the SMA? What do you recommend?

My last question is, how do you know when a pullback/retracement (in process) is actually a retracement or the start of a new trend? Is there any place that you can refer me to learn more about retracements/pullbacks?

I will appreciate your thoughts,

Hola,

Your first question... you look at both. The sma is better if it is sloping one way or the other and the turn occurs in the same direction but you can be less fussy with the daily signal, it is the hourly trend you are looking to trade, the daily just prompts you that there may be an hourly trend about to start.

Try to avoid situations when the sma is flat because you just don't know what will happen next. Forex is unpredictable anyway and the only thing in your favour is that if a trend begins it will tend to continue.

You have a few choices for timeframes. You can either just trade the one timeframe system in which case you can trade any time frame you see but the signals must be perfect every time to increase your odds or you can trade two timeframes such as weekly/4 hour. For 4 hour charts you should use a 30 to 50 pip stop depending on the pair and the situation.

Your last question... you don't. As I mentioned above you have not much idea what will happen next but if you use the dual timeframe system and consistently follow the rules then you will have many small losses when trends reverse but reasonably often you will hit a big trend that pays you back all your losses and more. It's a numbers game, just keep playing and you will come out ahead.

Just a follow up. Closed on the 15 minute close above the 100 ema (86 pips). Missed a chance to stack an extra trade which would have yielded about another 50 pips.

In hindsight not the best exit. Price turned around and dropped steeply. Still happy though. Hindsight is always perfect.

Thanks for you clear explanation, one of the reasons I trade H4 is because Im able to be at the screen right at the close of the candle.

I mean everything needs to be very smooth, no wavy stochs, no chopping from colour to colour on the heiken ashi candles. Spotting an excellent signal from a good one takes a bit of practise. Try using the trade simulator here

Hi, I haven't used it on stocks so you would have to test it. In general it works best on pairs that tend to trend smoothly such as eurusd and audusd. If there is a stock that behaves in a similar fashion then it should work fine. If you do try it out then please post your results here for others to learn from. Thanks.

Hello, I have been busy with another project for a while but taken a look and you could be onto something with those trades. Please post the outcome.

Double top on aud/usd daily. Any views on a long term trade with a 100 pip SL?
Daily heiken is red and moving away from that top..Hourly a bit in range..I cant see long on this system frame..at least now.

Wait for the daily to give the signal then if the hourly follows then start stacking trades. If it doesn't then don't chase it. There is always another trend around the corner.
