A brainstorming session a while back with a trading buddy (thanks dave) came up with another way to set up the indicator which can be achieved using the cz single pair indy, posted on this thread. Place cz single pair onto the chart, set parameters to auto box range true, atr period 100, daily range atr 0.20. The rest as is. Using cz max size, use the result as the input for the box range in the ssbo indicator. I martingale so I set max 6 trades but am looking to adjust the settings so to achieve on trade 4 just 1 trade with 100%. I monitor 8 pairs and have very tight settings, some have around 1 cz per week, but with 8 pairs thats more than enough. Once box length has been decided, input this figure into the cz single pair box length. This will set the indy to show the new box as it starts to form and also gives the time to completion if the candle size remains within spec, saves having to screenwatch. M.

Second and third attempt can only get back what you loose first.

You are ready to loose 3 lots to get back only one. Very bad reward/risk ratio.

Moreover consider that you loose because the consolidation zone what wrong so it is useless to try to make it give some pips...

If you want really to force bounce trade at least make a visual confirmation.

No serious trader uses martingale i think.

Well I'm still waiting for my GU trade to finish....unsurprising given the lack of volume as everyone waits for Bernanke to flap his gums.

forget the word martingale, that word is used for newbies. i adjust my stakes when i trade , either winning or losing and i hate to be tagged with the words martingale or anti martingale. The main thing to have is an excellent trading method and be consistant and as for trading this week awol, i am gooood. like i keep saying,,, i do , it is easy and effective way. Visual confirmation : you see that the system really found a good consolidation zone but it is only a quick 'spike' that turns your trade in losses for example. But i will never do that.

Martingale is well defined and has a lot of implementation possibilities (see Martingale in Wikipedia). I think it only tries to hide weakness of a method. So i don't use it.

This is only my opinion for doing only one trade with a zone. Everybody must have its own opinion.

My assessment is:

- If you think that the original method finds consolidation zones.
- If you take a trade, you think it will be won.

Now if the data says :

A- I win my trade: it seems our system is accurate (find zones).
B- I lose my trade: it seems that consolidation zone was not found.

So in the B case, i don't see any argue to continue trading with that zone because the system seems to have made a mistake.

Maybe i am wrong but is seems purely logic. I so will never try to 'recover' based on he same zone if i fail with this method.

I am rewritting an EA from scratch because i want :
- to masterize the parameters (starting from original method)
- to masterize the box placement
- to masterize the money management
- to manage the spead accurately

Somebody wrote 'everything is in the details'. I adhere to it.
Better is to take time to go in deep with the all the 'details'.

What i like in an Expert Advisor is that you really 'see' how market moves and sometimes it helps to correct algorithm weakness. Indicator do it 'all at one time' and you don't see your algorithm evolution.

And last week was 100% wins... This week also but until yesterday night only. In the strategy tester only (spread not accurate).

I prefer EURUSD and GBPUSD because of low spread and good volatility.

This is a good start, but the way is long to have a robust EA :
1- Strategy tester
2- Forward demo account
3- Forward live account with minimum lots
4- Forward live account with nominal lots

I will keep this thread informed when i will be sure of my results. Should be similar to others. This is a long process as i have a full time 'day' job...

Here is my take from what i have learned from this thread.

Consolidation is found by indi or manually or both, just because you lose a trade does not mean the consolidation zone is wrong or misplaced if you set it by the rules.

Once in the zone the price will leave it, going up or down and that is the only fact there is.

Im having a "box overriding eachother" behavior with the final version, that I didn't have with the 2.1 (using tickcharts specifically).

I disagree. Once you have a consolidation zone price WILL leave it going up or down, it's a fact. It always does. If it fails in one direction, it doesn't mean that the consolidation zone (or the system) is not valid, all it means is that the breakout will happen in the opposite direction. That's why this system is so beautiful, because you KNOW that price WILL break out from the consolidation zone, so when it fails in one direction, you can reenter in the other direction.

There is a mention of the 'RecalculateZeroBar' in the PDF, however that option is not a part of the new indicator.


Also, is it just me or is anyone else getting completely different net pip results with the new indicator with the exact same settings?
