This is interesting. Price has returned to the monthly open, with 4 successful trade sets in between.

Wouldn't pending orders negate the "2 closes outside the buffer" entry rule?

What if your order got hit and then the candle/bar closes back within the buffer?

When I trade this method, I would always enter manually, waiting for the 2 closes. Pain in the @ss, but it's gotta be done, unless there's a better way.

Having a great week. A long time ago I mentioned how some times after a dry spell the charts get extra active. Like now. Daily boxes don't happen too often. It will be interesting to see how many I finally do get by the end of the week.

I found the same spike last night on Trade Navigator feed for N/U. Chart time is Us Central time. I trade on Oanda fxTrade platform. Low on the same candle was within 2 pips but no spike up. Very strange indeed. Hope this helps. jm

I quite agree, however having gone through all the pairs that i am interested in, each pair has a defined tradeset, and I am looking to run this method as a set and forget after initial entry, which the trade set allows for, entry at touch of the buffer gave an excellent result, so as stoploss is hit, immediate entry in the opposite direction is what I am trying to achieve.

The ea couldnt keepup with the spike and fire off the opposite pending order, up to that point it had run faultlessly.

Possibly will go back to trading manually but being up 24/7 to complete the set is virtually impossible and as you say, pain in the ass.

Hello all,

Just like to say how impressed I am with this concept of stairstep breakouts!

Currently up to Sep 8th 2011 reading the thread (spent a good few hours yesterday soaking it up!). Such fascinating reading.

I entered into the GU trade last night but seeing as its CZ city on that pair at the moment, even with a setting of 24pip and 30 wide fixed, we got a stacked cz zone at the moment. I exited at break even and jumped onto the EU trade as I don't want to be trading these two in opposite directions.

I'm aware I have more to read and will probably discover hidden gems lurking in the thread "catacombs". I think I will tighten my GU settings possibly, unless the more experienced of you (I know FH has commented on the increased number of CZs on GU) think this week is more of an anomoly than anything. Indeed just dropping the range down by a pip would have eliminated the previous CZ and lowered my box total to 41.

Either way, I'm looking forward to success with the system and the hard work that lays ahead! And...maybe....the new indicator when it comes....

Also love the well policed mentality of the thread...clear guidelines...like!

Broker admitted spike! As it was on demo Im not to bothered, but I could have had the trades reset if it had been live.

Very distinctive range showing on Cable H4. I would hate to be running a swing system on that chart. No lagging indicator in the world can keep you on top of a range like that. Just when the stoch or RSI (etc.) gives a signal, price will already be turning against you.

Meanwhile, during the same period (back to early July) I've traded 16 completely trouble-free breakout trade sets, never having to worry about direction or long term sentiment. I know that most of you guys have seen the exact same thing.

My average CZ's per week is going through the roof. Long may this continue. Really good week, the CZ's have been working lovely. I've also trade EJ this week.

The 5 pip buffer may seem like a small detail in the method .

However , I am finding that it is a huge benefit , in the trades I am taking ..

Nice trading DryClean.

Only one trade for me today on Cable (short from this morning). It broke out and hit take profit (30 pips) in a few minutes. Closed the terminal and off to enjoy the sunshine.

I caught four of the CZs on Cable since Monday and they were all hassle-free trades. +4.1% for the account this week, which is way over my target. The Stairstep breakouts are returning approximately three times the profit of my long term trend-following systems, and with smaller draw-down. The bulk of my capital is still in my trend-following accounts, but I'm gradually moving it over to the account I use for this system. More confidence, more capital :-)
