Alright gang,

I'm pretty new in the forex market and I was taught basically how to scalp and day trade. Trade trends, news, High impact reports, etc,. I'm looking to become an advanced forex trader and I was wondering if you guys would be able to point me in the right direction. This last week was my first week trading for real. I had a profitable week. But I could have done a lot better had I not made stupid mistakes. I know I have the right mindset, I just need to educate myself further on the forex to be a great trader. How do I become a great trader?

During my first week of forex trading a few years ago, I did pretty well. The profit was more than 100%. But, then it became unstable all the time after I began to accept all trading ideas.

Why sometimes new traders have very good performance? My view is that they see market the way it is. Their mind is clear from all kind of trading methods. What I am trying to do now is to go back to that mindset.

As to how to become a great trader, I don't think I am qualified to answer your question. But, I do know that a strong resolve and time are two important ingredients. -IMHO-

I'm pretty much the same as you my friend, currently in Australia, but i'm too hasty in choosing my broker back then in my country, most of my friends used insta, but after observing this forum for quite sometime, i'm more literate in this forex stuff.

The biggest mistake that i foolishly did it over and over again was taking position that against the trend. So tempting but so costly...even though it gives me a big profit when the luck was on my side. By reading related threads ini this forum, apparently i'm increasing this luck factor, but some said 'luck is for those who are come prepared!'

My initial trading attempt, before I went through formal training was like dbutton1990 experienced. My first couple of trades made over $1000 each and I remember thinking how easy this was!! What had happened was, I inadvertently by chance enter a couple of correct trades that moved over 100 pips. I was so excited and thought, I'm going to be rich in no time!

Well you can guess what happened! My new broker initialized my new account set up to full lots and the next set of trades lost my original profit and ate up thousands of my capitol. Fear sets in and you start getting adrenalin pounding every time you pull the trigger! That's when I started down the education path. The first thing I learned was great risk management and simple ABC trades which identified a trend and then traded with it.

That was several years ago and I'm still on a steep learning curve!!

Experience, a lot of analysis and careful consideration of everything that you see and perceive, documentation of your trades, Learning from your own mistakes and keeping everything as non emotional as possible will be a subset of the tools necessary in becoming a "Great Trader"!

Oh yeah!!... Share your ideas, both good or bad with other traders. It's a great resource that can help you clarify your own positions. Just make sure that you never trade some one else s ideas as that will not make a trader out of you!

hello azzam,
first I like to said that the trend is your friend as many traders in this forum write about it, and I prove it in my demo account.
I was planning to start trading this week, but I don't think is going to happen cause I cant choose a broker, ( I always make sure to pick the right one, because I only blame myself if I make a mistake.

I let you know when I get one that is right.

I guess I'm around 40% completion (optimistically) in average for all those points, except for 6, 7 and especially 9: I can't stop learning (now understanding it correctly is another issue, lol), I spring back up after every fall (after a short or not-so-short convalescence period ... ) and I definitely still love Forex trading as much or even more than I did on the early days ... I don't know exactly why, maybe it's because it's so similar to Music, for me ...

I see that a couple of haters dropped by here just to fart. My suggestion is not to react on such action no matter how smelly their farts are. Let them smell their own fart, period.

I trade with Oanda. I did a lot of research and it is the platform that suits me.
