A very simple and effective way to distinguish fake break out from a real one was described by Nison.
From 3:35 sorry if it's to noobish but simpler the better

i appreciate it. i am not talking about that...i am talking about using market microstructure pattern to SEE what the smart money is doing through statistical analysis and accounting for false positives.

anyways, i appreciate your help, tomspin. thanks for engaging me on this issue.

on the other news...the EUR/USD is bullish again...dump 85% of cargo at 1.2266..leaving the remaining 15% till kingdom come...either the bulls or the bear...PREFERABLy, I WILL like to sell that remaining 15% at 1.2400 or at BE+1. WHICH ever one comes first.

I saw this post of yours earlier and it peaked my interest, but I passed it by. I downloaded the paper just now and will have to give it a read...

Not specific to the paper and its methods... which I haven't read yet, I trade an algorithm that qauntifies the quality of a breakout....

the idea is to have a screen to filter out breakouts that are likely to fail.... be false breakouts.... from breakouts that are likely to go on and hit a profit target that is far enough away from entry to allow a 2 to 1 risk to reward ratio and still give enough room for market noise to stay away from the stop loss...

From a thirty thousand foot overview, I surmise that is along the lines you are thinking of pursuing. I won't give away my secret sauce, but I have been successful in devising an algorithm that achieves that. I am sure it is not the same method used in the paper. The signature of a good breakout begins to be put into the data before the breakout occurs..... I believe because smart money is moving early into the move, just as the shocks of an interest rate change are observable in the data before the rate announcement ( gleaned by reading the paper's summation)..... again, because I believe, smart money is already moving ....So if you are asking is it worth pursuing... why yes... it is.

I see what you are looking for now. I always felt intimidated by this type of analysis ergo found candles the easiest whay to understand what is going on with the market - cannot say it is the best way but it suits me at my present level of knowledge - Gator is your guy on this one (I think) - he knows his stuff and may be helpful - PM him.

if it's laptop and you are using touch pad by any chance grab it in the middle like you would lift a pinch of salt and spread you fingers - like on I phone this should zoom out your web page

It is because some member here is posting charts outside of "normal" width. I believe 800x600 pixels to be standard. Anything above this framework posted - will widen the thread/screen.

Well, it is still depends on the browser, I guess IE would do that.

No change from my posted threads yet, though 2335 area looks like a good resistance now, that levels might give us a good pattern, the UC looks good as well, the Gold took my TPs, rallied back for a retest, so took 2 shorts again.

Added EJ to a game with 2 positions, the first TP was just taken, looking for the next at 97.26

GY is bouncing and cannot reach my final target (I am long), more than 100 pips.

thank you very much. to me, the smart money are generally always in before everybody....everything is rigged to some extent. mapping them out, will be good profits. (if i can pull it off. will probably need the help of my mathematician friends).

I will try and get in contact with gator...thanks for the reference, tomspin. There is no need to be intimidated by a bunch of quants....most of the time, they suck at trading. here is an art to trading that goes beyond numbers.
