I'm just thinking say I had a code for an EA that's been raking in the dosh and I end up trading a very large account for some private investors.

Now would it make much sense to post that code on Forex Factory?

Why not?
I don't think it would make a difference in your performance if you did post it on FF.

You could make a case it wouldn't be smart because another money manager could take away potential clients using your very own strategy, but I don't think it will affect your results. Unless you are a central bank.

uh huh... So lets say I post that code and it becomes a sticky on FF up the top of the trading systems thread, It's still there after a year with 600,000 downloads... Everyone runs my EA and we all get rich right?

It wouldn't be for the reasons you think.

If it fails it's because your EA stinks.

I should also add that I don't believe in EA's or MetaTrader. I think it has too many 'glitches'. That has nothing to do with the trading logic in the code however.

You can share a system, but you can't share a mindset, discretion and actual experience.

People may be able to understand how your system works in hindsight, but most won't be able to trade it profitably in real time. Of course a lot of them aren't actually profitable to begin with, but some are.

As they say... A good trader will take a bad system and make a profit, a bad trader will take a good system and make a loss... It's hard to pick up someone elses manner of trading over the internet, without knowing the exact logic they used to form the strategy and how to trade the nuances that come along with it.

True....
Like if someone broke into an NFL Football Team coaches safe and stole his playbook. It might help you if you are a pro team facing them in tomorrow's SuperBowl.
But it will not magically transform a bunch of amateurs into professionals.
Especially.... it will not make "beating all of the best pro teams" a simple task, which can be easily accomplished with little effort.

It has been said before that trading is difficult.... even if you do put in the time, effort, and discipline.

Those looking to skate around the immense effort required are truly kidding themselves with dreams of islands, limousines, and trophy wives.

It can be done..... but not by acquiring another players' playbook.

Nice response. I'm usually drunk by the turn, so it doesn't matter to me if I made quadruple bogey or not, hehe. I do get a bit angry when I lose a whole box of golf balls in one round though.

haha... I can relate.

Although the better I get at trading the better I seem to get at golf. Or maybe it's the other way around .

Golf and trading have a lot of parallels to the psych involved in both.

your knowledge is your edge in market..sharing it is like teaching your enemy how to fight.it's like digging your own grave.it's a dog eat dog world.it's you against everyone else.And trading is not a sport like golf and football .There is no comparison.

Well I disagree. I don't see anyone on here as an enemy, opponent or competitor. Granted, I don't share my trades (not because I fear it would jeopardize their success). If you were to say I wouldn't share because I don't feel I should use up my time to give you something for nothing, then different story. I can understand that, believe me. But to not share because it might affect the outcome is a myth.

Now let me play devils advocate. What if I showed everyone a system and then secretly traded the opposite of it. Are you saying that will help me?
