Ever consider I'm just messing around, trying setups and don't really care cause the money isn't enough to give a crap about, well thats the situation.

Yesterday, I was working on setups and taking it more seriously.

Today I just put $0.50 on gold cause I'm bored and it vaguely looks like a bottom and everything else ###/usd is turning up.

Out +20% or $13 see playing around, back to $76.


Next week, I'll be trading at $0.5 so I'm kinda getting used to it, car sells and $1 to $2 per pip, then SERIOUS!!

Gold ran into my first main MA also 1630 ( which 1 who knows ) and TANKED hard, glad I didn't get greedy on that

I doubt that very much, you're always pleading poverty and saying how you really wish you had more time and more money, you're taking a few bucks out of your trading account to fix your car for crissakes! You were also having orgasms about your previous gains, even to the extent of posting an account screenshot! Hardly the actions of someone just 'messing around' and who thinks the total of his spare cash is 'money isn't enough to give a crap about'! Quite obviously it is!


Don't spend it, you'll probably be giving it back in a few days, it's the cycle your account has gone through for the past 7 years or whatever it is, it's an established trend which you're going to have a lot of difficulty breaking while your head is so firmly up your exhaust pipe!

Learning how to trade through research = 10 years (total & still learning)
Developing proprietary indicators = 10 years
Developing proprietary trading systems = 8 years
Profitability across various forms of signals = 2 years
Profitability across a frozen system design = 4 years

However, it wasn't like I rolled out of bed one morning and flipped the switch on a trading system that made money for 4 years straight. I built a system that was initially a short-term swing trading system. So, profitability was measured in weeks, not days. The growth was slow, as I simultaneously worked at pushing the system further and making it a Day Trading System. While that development cycle was continuing for years, I took profits whenever I could get them, which meant holding positions like a swing trader. Certainly, not able to make a living from trading in the early years.

Eventually, through continued development, design, engineering and countless hours of research & testing, I eventually optimized the system to produce a one trade signal per day, that generated an average of between 30 to 40 pips per day, with an above 93% success rate. I then froze the design on that system (no more edits) and tracked its accuracy for the next 2 years. It has maintained a range of accuracy between 91% to 97% for the past 4 years.

So, the road to consistency was rocky and filled with lots of optimization that came as a result of research and testing.

I have to make distinction between an EA, and a Trading System. As I stated in my thread "Do Software Developers Make Better Traders," (or, something like that), all EAs are algorithmic trading routines, but not all EAs qualify as Trading Systems. The vast majority of EAs out there, are not trading systems. They are typically trading tactics, methodologies and/or strategies, whereas a trading system has an architecture that serves as the structural foundation upon which trade logic is hung.

At some point, you have to clearly define the components of a trading system, design their respective individual architectures and then build into those components, the trade logic that gets integrated into a cohesive unit. Most EAs out there, are simply not that comprehensive.


It is probably not about the platform in use, but the Trade Logic being created by the individual - and that comes through research on data and generating trading ideas that stand the test of time. This is the whole point of my other thread on the subject. Lots of Programmers think that because you can execute a trading using a computer, that somehow getting to consistency, is no more difficult than writing lines of code.

This is why I say that writing good trade logic, is worlds apart from writing good software code.


Excel is great, I used it at the start and still use it to today for prototyping a new idea. Excel, is best for research. I can design a Test Bed for a new algorithm in Excel, faster than I can anywhere else - of course, I'm a non-software developer.


And, that's my point. To be consistent, I you have to also be consistent during the Transition Phase. Or, simply stay out of the markets during those times. Of course, staying out means that you will suffer Opportunity Loss. If you are on a time table for growing capital, then suffering opportunity loss can hurt. But, if you are not on a time table for calling profitability, then simply stay out of the market until your indicators tell you it is once again, Flat.

Otherwise, you have no choice but to develop indicators that tell you when the "trend" (which really does not exist - it never did) is undergoing Transformation, and what Type of transformation is occurring. My "Market Direction" indicator as 9 primary inputs across 5 sub-routines. 45 total outputs that determine the Direction of the market, sits at the core of my system. Wrapped around those 45 core outputs, are about 117 different Predictive outputs - each one having a unique (optimized) function/calculation. The rest is a Decision Support Matrix (the Brain) that algorithmically ranks, sorts and 'decides' what the trade signal should be for the day.

The system learns as it goes. Which is also one of the reasons why it only generates one (1) trade signal per day. It also has a Targeting System embedded into the Trading System, so they work together. Target (Limit Level) acquisition is tied directly into the historical results of the system and determines where the Limit Level will be for each trade.

The system does not use a Stop, and instead uses a reversal signal to terminate the prior trade. Over time, this translates to approximately one (1) trade per 24 hours, but there can be hold periods in excess of 72 hours. Before the system holds any position beyond 24 hours, it calculates the probability of a successful outcome equal to, or greater than the number of pips on hand at the decision point. This is how the system "learns" and "thinks" its way through making decisions.

There is no way I could manually do any of this. The system has a mind of its own a this point, which is what I always wanted from day one. Physically, I can't keep up with it anymore.

None of the MT4/MQL EA research that I'm doing right now, will ever get as advanced as my primary trading system. But, I am trying to find out just how far I can get with an EA, or whether or not I can somehow develop a new paradigm for Intra-Day Trading using some of the core components of the prototype system.

I trade to grow capital. So, if its not about profitability, then I'm in the wrong business. I might as well go start a McDonald's franchise, and put a permanent cap on my revenue.

But, if I don't want a permanent cap on my revenue, then I can see if I am able to develop trade logic that can give me enough of an edge, that allows me to grow capital at a rate that is "unusual" or "unlike" other business models. Otherwise, I can go do something else with my time.

So, I think this entire business is all about growing money, and growing it as fast as you can and with as little error as possible.

Maximum revenue growth with Minimum risk = Efficiency of Trade Logic.



I would say that depending on the time line you require for booking a profit per trade, 75% could be more than enough to grow your capital to just about any level you want. Of course, none of this covers:

- Position Sizing
- Average Hold Time Per Trade
- Target Capital Growth Level
- Equity Used Per Trade
- Average Stop Loss
- Average Net Profit
- Commissions
- Slippage
- Bucket Shop Variables that Cost Traders Money

Everybody trades for different reasons (just like I said before). Success, as a trader is determined by whether or not the trader is meeting their own goals. There is a huge difference between trying to supplement Social Security check at the end of the month, and trying to build a $2-$5 billion cost basis to be managed each day across several currency pairs.

One trader might only need to net $500/day, while another trader might need to grow their capital on a geometric basis every day. There is a huge difference between the two and how they need to approach the markets. They could use the exact same trading system, but have completely different Money Management Systems. One set for a static daily return, while the other is geared-up for geometric growth with a lot more built-in risk.

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. But, in either case, regardless of the goal, growing capital has been and will always be the name of the game for the trader. Else, why be in the business. Or, else, this business is just a hobby.

If one has a larger scale plan, then they are trying really hard to get out of Retail, and into Institutional. The difference is about $300k to $500k. You can go retail these days with $50 bucks at a hyper-micro bucket shop. But, you cannot get on an institutional platform at that level, and some platforms won't even look at you under $15 million.

So, again, it success in this business really does depend on what the trader is trying to accomplish with their capital, while growing capital is always the concern of any trader. How robust your system turns out to be, will govern the growth cycle (speed).

I earn good money, at times but I've got a woman that blows it all on stupid holidays, I spend a lot on Mountainbiking and climbing other woman to

$60 area, or $80, I earn £30 so $45 per hour so it does fall into the nothing category at the moment, I've been messing around with 20% risk per trade for 3 years on the $100 I last put in, it's good experience.

And I said, KINDA Monday, like weekend converts today into a worse than a normal monday monday and it was to.
