I already have a developer ID... but this is actually pretty smart... granted, provided its used in it's best sense... as in disabling naughty developers apps being pushed onto machines. However, it could be really really dangerous if falsely accused.

I'm sure there are people waiting to go ballistic when it occurs. I know a guy that manufacturers microphones and Paypal froze a LOT of his money because they thought he was money-laundering, or arms dealing, or something like that. >$50k for eight months, I believe. Nearly broke him. Potential is there for the same sort of shite to happen.

All things considered, I think Apple is a pretty decent outfit. Look at the music industry. Was literally going the way of the Dodo bird. Companies screamed BS when Apple wanted 30%. They went along with it kicking and screaming. Said companies are now posting profits for the first time in years. I don't think they mind the 30% now. 70% of something so accessible is better than 0% of nothing through file-sharing. Also...

Apple is bringing out a new "Mastered for iTunes" file format...HiDef, blah, blah, blah...but is good to see. Nothing worse than working your ass off on something only to see it get compressed to shit and full of artifacts in MP3-type formats. Is expected to be another revenue booster, too...and differentiate between shite quality rips floating around the internet. Good move IMO.

Good stuff. Yep. I loved the way the music industry is turning now. Biggest problem there... dinosaur business models not keeping up with current technology. We see it time and time again, except the big boys like the MPAA and RIAA have enough money to affect legislation, which allows them to keep their business model afloat. Instead of political corruption, if they would have been innovating with the times... they could be sitting on those huge profits from downloadable music. I'm a true capitalist when it comes to this stuff. Step up or Step aside so to speak. Same reason I nearly flipped a lid with the bailouts to the corps.

Industry still kicking and screaming "Piracy is making us lose millions of dollars a year"... yeah, I call BS. The people who are pirating would not be buying it whether available or not for a price. Quality is generally less than optimum too as you noted. If they would just embrace the change instead of kicking & screaming the entire way... would be so much better.

The biggest threat is the new distribution model though... artists can get started and be heard without funneling through the gatekeepers (RIAA). The artists are actually able to get a foothold without all of their cash being siphoned by the industry.
