Below is my connection log from my Pepperstone Live account. It's only a record of disconnections while i had my MT4 terminal running (during GMT day). Time is the server time, and the connection status is checked every second, so times below should be accurate to ± a few seconds.

On friday I experienced the same issue as we were having back in 2011, where price freezes for about 30 seconds, and then rapidly catches up. Live support said the tech team were working on changing some of the infrastructure and they didn't know how long it would take for this issue to be resolved

Yep many disconnects & noticed too some ticks lags in a big move. MT4 got like clugged then chart moved too fast to catch up!

Hope they fix it before we get a mess like Go Markets.

No, i don't have a live account with them. I've attached the EA, so if anyone else does then they can share their experience.

The EA creates the log file in the directory: "drive_c/Program files/[MT4 folder]/Experts/files/Connection Log"
As server time is unknown when disconnected, the EA uses TimeLocal(), which is your computer time.

Gotta be careful about what this implies though.. Even with Pepperstone having a disconnection problem, not all disconnections occur because of the server dropping out. The disconnection could be caused by any number of ISP, net, connectivity, timeout, and client issues as well...

To help clean up the results, maybe combine a ping command into that script that checks general connectivity at the time by hitting live.pepperstone.com, pepperstone.com, and google.com...

I'm not saying you'll axe out most of the disconnects by doing this, but since not everyone is connecting through the same ISP, on the same hardware, in the same environment, etc... it's best to do some simple things to rule out connectivity interruptions that aren't related to their server dropping.

(You'd be surprised how running MT4 over a cruddy WiFi connection on a broker who's server is set to timeout quicker than the average will cause you headaches.)

thats the typical response of all brokers. its not our fault its probably your internet connection or your computer. blame everything else but themselves.
when your like me who has been trading a long time and who has more than one brokers trading platform running at the same time and you know its not your problem, you get sick of brokers giving out this answer.
pepperstone is having connection issues at present albeit it may be better than all the other smaller brokers connection issues.

When did I ever say the disconnections were automatically your client side's fault?

Sigh... don't think you understood my post, read it again. I made the suggestion so you can prove it's NOT your problem or your internet connection.

You show diagnostics proving that at the time of the disconnect, you had connectivity to other online components of Pepperstone's site, servers, and even Google.

And at the same time, in case you were dealing with a shotty ISP connection, you'd also be setting yourself up to catch a problem on your end before you blame the broker.

It's simply taking an extra step to narrow down the source of the issue.

And yes, as I said in a few posts now, there still is an issue with disconnects.. :/

rooicol created a script to log all disconnects that take place. (And good on him, that guy rocks for some of the scripts he's created!) However, I felt there was a causality logic problem there since any disconnect doesn't mean the server itself dropped your connection (like the problem were having) so I felt adding in some type of filer would help make sure you're only focusing on the disconnects caused by issues on Pepperstone's end.

If people are going to use a tool like that script, they might not be as savvy as yourself craig65, and might be using it while experiencing legitimate ISP, WiFi, network card, or any number of problems related to connectivity atop of the current issues with Pepperstone's server. Their results might be much worse because of this... then they flame Pepperstone for it and spam their results around thinking they are acting righteously when all the while they just needed a better home net connection.

Before going back to school for finance, I spent over 5 years working corporate IT, and you would believe the kind of nonsense users would come up with when they are given tools they don't understand. So that's what prompted my response...

but i must say pepperstone has been much better this week. fewer disconnects and when it did disconnect it wasnt for long.
im still using pepperstone.

I don't see it this way unfortunately. I'm using both normal and razor, this is from my normal account. They usually go down together. As you can see from the legend below I never lost internet connectivity.

No, why should they? They route all orders directly to integral. This is not a bucketshop broker like many others

But yes, they use Integral for their price feed and routing to LPs.

so you mean they just using for their price feed and not hedge risk instead taking the other side of client trade ?

i wont ask pepper because there will be conflict of interest ...

I never implied that at all...


I said they use Integral to route to their LPs as well as for a price feed.

What are you saying, that Pepperstone is market maker and trades against its clients?

Hi,

Both FinFX and Pepperstone use our services for FX aggregation and distribution, but not necessarily exclusively. In addition, they may have a different set of liquidity providers and apply different spreads / rules to those feeds. This would probably explain any differences you might observe.
