The wife works in the trading industry and here's the reality. Trading firms, as high tech they seem from outside, they are actually very archaic when it comes to procedures, reconciliation etc. of the back office. It may seem crazy but if a customer asks for a check AND a wire of the full account balance, both will be send without any prior reconciliation. Integration is virtually nonexistent inside trading companies let alone with the exchanges. It's all manual, over the phone etc...

actually im not defending nobody. but all his e-mails and any records are locked up by the investigators. so he has nothing to look back on for dates and times. or who, what or when. so if he misstates something it could be a jail offense. i would wait for the records too, myself.

depends where you get your news. try pbs.. they usually report the news. they dont have a bias for a bank or someone selling gold, or someone wanting a particular party in power. they let you think and determine in your own mind.

PBS is funded by tax $.... the bias is built in for more government more taxes....its how they get paid....typical mindset of just about all public / state / federal employee....I have worked at just about all of them at one time or another as I have worked my way up thru the ranks to gain experience (not a cushy pension) and I can tell ya the midset is sickening

I have a good buddy who is a fireman...he is also a union rep....his Christmas letter this year included a snippet about how he was fighting hard for raises for the poor fireman....two sentences later....about the two trips to Aruba....

The world is on fire and he needs a raise? Id bet there would be a line 3 miles long for people willing to do his job twice as good with half the pay and no pension...This is the real life disconnect between private / public sector

same here. i save the old 401 statements. ( i haven't changed the funds distribution is 20 years) its easy to cut through the bs. stocks up in this date.. and down on this date. its not what most advertise.

I have no problem with the public sector, but I do have a big problem with public sector unions which in my opinion should be illegal.

I don't blame him for wanting a raise. It's the duty of each employee to always ask for more money for less work. As it's for any manager to ask for more work for less money, but the public sector unions are the cancer of this society.

A bunch of my buddies just got laid off from McGraw Hill yesterday.

With that being said, McGraw-Hill is a dieing company because they don't want to pursue virtual content.

Yep...they have awesome construction / architecture publications....yet their corporate structure is going the way of the dinosaur....I hope they fold....Ill get my info for half the cost...and better service too (sorry about your friends job loss though)

I use to work for McGraw so I have a lot of friends there. Some made it through the cut, others didn't. The ones that are still there are looking for a new job though because they know it's dying.

They are a smart group of people though, they will be fine. I'm sure the CEO is making nice money still.

I never pined for unwarranted raises....these guys sit around in $1500 la-z-boys all day......yes, they fight fires, but the reality is this. The international Code Council has passed a law that all new single family homes (not in Florida) shall be sprinkled....I doubt half of the fireman in this country got laid off after that was passed.....nope. So, now we have an even greater demand on aging utilities for a code required sprinkled single family home, which will lead to an increase in taxes to pay for this, yet the fireman wont be reduced. No, since 911, fireman are now untouchable....
