I understand your points when you refer to the management of the debt crisis and the macroeconomic mismanagement of some in Europe but on the rest....No Gator, I disagree.

You are putting everybody in the same bag. Actually that's exactly the problem in the euro zone. Some countries are in 21st century while other are still struggling to pass the 20th....

IMHO, is a mistake and one shouldn't measure and compare Luxembourg or Helsinki with Athens in the same scale as is not only far from true but is even technically wrong for economic forecasting...

..."those countries are spending/promising more" Finland? Luxembourg? Austria? Netherlands? are you you sure or you are just referring to the Piigs?

In any case, with or without the euro, neither you or me on our life time will see these countries (Luxembourg, Finland, etc) in the poorer/bankrupt side of the world ....maybe later...as you said Rome, Greece, Egypt, etc took more than 5 thousands years to collapse....so we still have a couple thousand year left before that....

all I know is we keep getting all this bad news, and we keep trading in the mid 30's, pretty sick of it...I can help but envision some sort of strong short covering rally this month....

All they are going to do is to conduct a review. Maybe in a few weeks time they will conclude as you do.

However, it seems to me that without the backing of the printing press and the ever increasing interconnectedness of the Euro zone there is in fact a shadow of a chance that they will default. And as I understand the arcane language of rating agencies, AA+ means "almost no chance of default" while AAA means "no chance of default".

Of course, we have seen a few cases where AAA really meant "damn good chance of default". This agencies do make mistakes from time to time.

when those rich countries put themselves in the same bag as Greece ect. they became average of all of them together. the weak got stronger and the strong weaker. your only as strong as the weakest link. those weak countries are part of the strong countries customer base. all of the debt acquired over the last 12 years are part of the strong ones problem. all this tightening is making those customers buy less from the rich ones. causing the rich to lose an = amount. a war will come in our lifetime and change it all. at one time you could set your watch for each 20 years.
