Hey guys,

Anyone use Expert Advisers in MetaTrader to automate their trading?

A new semester is forthcoming, so best of luck to all in their studies and trading!

I've got a feeling the US is going have a strong quarter...

Hey everyone, Just created an account here. I myself, am currently attending Indiana University and am a Junior. I don't have classes till 4 EST so I am able to catch all of New York and then I also trade London as well.

p.s looks like the dollar is currently starting to make a strong come back to start the year as gold starts to decline as well.

I've been using MetaTrader EAs and developing them for about a year, maybe a little more than that. Lately I've been working outside of MetaTrader since I need more capability and scalability so I am building my own historical tick database for testing, modeling strategies, and later the full strategy cycle including execution using Matlab. It's a very powerful tool that allows you to do all the regular stuff from MT4 and then some, but since it is not made for trading specifically it definitely involves quite a bit of more work. I am looking into genetic algorithms, neural networks, parameterless systems as well as some other things, let me know if you have any questions.

As a math major, I am familiar with Matlab, and thus the EA I intend to develop will be extremely mathematical based.

What I have found so far is that MT4 is limiting in it's backtesting. I have not been able to figure out (if possible) how to access any core data from the tests to analyze, all it returns is the compiled data. The "Report" is severely limiting to me in that sense -there is no easy way to optimize specific parameters of interest and find relationships in the charts unless you use intense trial-and-error or write a program that backtests it for you. For this reason I can see the feasibility in a historical tick database.

A professor of mine has done immense research in evolutionary algorithms. I'm sure there are some processes that can be directly applied to forex from bioinformatics. For now my focus is strictly on indicators -complex algorithms will follow.

MT4 is limiting but at the same time, don't write it off so quickly. You can output pretty much all raw data if you wish and then run your own analysis on that. I just chose to use matlab as the base and build out my own database because I see a future there for myself in various aspects and learning stuff like that is interesting to me, plus I've done a few years of database work before so it's nothing that is really really new to me, so why not!

I've been at it since the beginning of the year and slowly getting better at it but there's still a ton to learn it. Seems to come down to time, dedication, and triial & error to become consistently profitable.

Hawkish can refer to strength of an economy or more specifically, regarding interest rates. If a central banker is "hawkish", that generally means that they expect higher interest rates, with an improvement in economic conditions. Contrastingly, "dovish" means that lower interest rates are expected, suggesting weaker economic conditions that may warrant easing. Hope this helps
